I recommend that J and her husband get their own policy as soon as possible - arrange it before the wedding to take effect on the wedding date. Both of them will immediately experience a significant drop in the premium price just because they are married - much less than being on your policy. If you want to help them with the initial payment, that would be a nice gesture. After all, as soon as she is off your policy it will save you money.

As long as they are responsible drivers they can stay on our policy until they're done with school.

I don't think it is a parents responsibility at all. I do think it is a nice thing to do and we have done it with my older children.

Diane - I got married in December of 2006. I was able to stay on my mom and dads's auto insurance until they renewed it in March, then I hopped over to my husbands. That was about 2-3 months, and we didn't have a problem. Hopefully that helps!
