My nephew is having his graduation party this weekend. How much do you typically give to a close family member who has graduated high school?

My niece graduated last year and we gave her about a $200 necklace.

We were thinking a check for $200.

I guess it really depends on your budget!

She is my only niece on my side of the family and DH's sister's kids, well, they all keep dropping out of school before graduation even becomes and issue. She has four kids and only one od them is in school currently.

We give $50 as well.  We also talked about it amongst the adults before the first one graduated.

Depends on how close they are. This year, I got an announcement from my cousin's son, and my other cousin's GRANDSON.  For the grandson, I really didn't think they should have sent the announcement to me at all, but I felt guilty not sending anything, so I sent $25.  For my cousin's son, that cousin was best man in our wedding, so I sent $50. My best friends' eldest has her party tomorrow. We are called "aunt and uncle" to her. Plus, she is one of only 16 kids in the country to take a test and win the big scholarship to Michigan State - full tuition, full room and board, plus $1000/term stipend for books & expenses, so we are very proud of her. She is getting what we gave to our nieces/nephew - $250.

Our last nephew to graduate HS was over 10 years ago (they're all much older than my kids), and at that point we had been giving them all $100. When my kids graduated, my brothers gave them $100 and my SIL I "think" gave them $200. My only advice is to look at how MANY you're going to have to give to since you probably want to give them all the same amount. We both have small families so only had a total of 4 nieces/nephews to gift to. If I was in a family with a zillion nieces and nephews, I might have to think about it.
