Back-to-School Tax-free shopping day?

Does your state have a tax-free shopping day for back-to-school? Do you take advantage of it? What kind of stuff is tax-free? Do you do shopping for yourself? For future gifts?

Personally, I'm looking forward to the sales.

I had never even heard of such a thing until I came to MS.

Mel, I didn't know about it until I moved to NC either- clothing tax was a new one to me (we didn't have tax on clothing in NJ).

Yes, I will take advantage of it this year (1st weekend in Aug here) DS needs a laptop for school so it will save me some $$ right there and I'll probably pick up their uniforms and shows too. I got DD's laptop last year (tax free weekend) and it saved us some cash then too smile.gif

Mommysavers is also the only place I have heard of this. Minnesota never taxes clothing.

we did in Fl and to be honest, it really didn't save me that much.  But I wasn't buying high end things either.

We have tax-free holiday here, usually during the 1st week of August.  I buy back-to-school clothes for dd and pick up anything that dh and I need, like new sneakers, underwear, socks, etc.  I've usually already bought dd's school supplies since that stuff gets picked over fast, but since school is starting later this year, I'm hoping those items won't run out as quickly and I get them during the tax-free holiday.

In case you wondered if your state has a tax-free holiday: I found this page ...

It must be an east-coast thing.

The nearest one to us is Missouri, and Kansas City is about 4 hours away. Once our little one is old enough for school, I'd love to head down there and do some shopping. I think it's a really great idea! I know a group of ladies from my town that go to KC every year.....the come back with a bunch of stuff because so many places are having big sales too!
