Have you ever planned someone's funeral before they died?

It just seems so weird, but it has to be done. My uncle has had a very long battle with ALS and is ready to give up the fight. The plan is to disconnect the ventilator at the end of the month. he is not expected to live more then a few minutes after that. My cousins have the funeral planned already. It just feels so weird to me! My dh is writing a prayer for the service. It is all kind of surreal.

My parents have written down what they want to happen at theirs and have given it to my sister in a sealed envelope. Songs they want played, scriptures they want read etc.

Hubby and I both have pre-planned our funerals and have the info stored in the safe. Frankly, so much has changed - and we've planned so many other funerals - I'm sure a lot will change.

All four of our parents planned their funerals when they were alive. Everything was planned and paid for. Made it so much simpler when they died. If I had a family member who was for sure going to die, I would think it was practical to go ahead and plan the funeral.

My mom even had a program typed up for her funeral. It's very practical if you see it coming and have specific wishes (songs, or whatever). I was at the funeral home with my aunt at the moment she died.

This is planned already as in the date and time arranged . My family is taking the day off work and making travel arrangements already.

Not down to a T, but we had been in touch with the funeral director a couple of weeks before my Mil passed away but she was in hospice and at home so some arrangements had to be made....

I can understand this part being strange for you and hard to handle.  I don't know how much your uncle is suffering, but it must be pretty bad if he's ready to let go.  I'm sorry you all have to go through this.

As for your question, my parents have planned their funerals.  I have a really hard time thinking about death, but I know that eventually, dh and I will need to do this too.  I'm just not ready yet.  However, if we were confronted with death, planning the funeral might be a way to work through it and accept it.
