Have you found out when your local grocery store marks down meat?

I did by accident.  I was at Aldi on Tuesday and the manager was marking down their chicken breast--$2 off each package.  I bought four packages (3 lbs each) for only about 60 cents each!  I would have bought more, but I didn't want to seem greedy.  He said that he always has a special on meet to sell quickly before his truck comes on Wednesdays.  You can be sure I will make Tuesdays my Aldi shopping day!

How about you?  Have you ever asked your store's butcher when they mark down their meat?

they only do it here the day before it expires.

That's the way ours do it too. Since meat has a short expiration date, they do it daily on the ones expiring. I wonder how they keep it fresh until the weekly mark down comes?

These had expiration dates of 7/6 and it was 7/3...plenty of time to either cook it up or freeze it.

I'm just wondering though if it was just that specific group of meat and other meats are marked down different days of the week. At my grocery stores there are different meats every day since all the different kinds don't have the same expiration date. Great deal on those though.

You might be right and I might have misunderstood him.  He mentioned having a weekly meat special and this was it that week.  So maybe they just had a lot of extra because it was the special that week.   And maybe each week whatever is the special gets marked down on Tuesdays...

That would be great because the special is already priced low so if it's discounted anyway, it would be great!! That might be it too, because the meat special starts on Wed each week I think, so it would be logical they're discounting what is left from the previous special. I'll have to keep an eye out for that. I was there one week and they had chicken sausage clearanced REALLY low. I bought every package they had. But sometimes I don't see the deals other people get like the Brie Kim got. I would have loved the chicken breasts too.
