Message in a bottle craft

Obviously the idea has been around for years and years, but I never made one. I thought how much fun would it be for the munchkins to send one to their grandparents, and how much the grandparents would love getting unique mail. It was SO Easy!

Start with a clean dry water bottle, peel the label off. Have the munchkins write their letters, or draw pictures and then wrap it up in a tight scroll (small enough to fit through the top of the bottle). I taped it then tied it to secure it:

700

Then I used a touch of elmers glue to the inside of the cap to seal it, and then as an extra measure- I taped it.

Write out your address and adhere it to the front of the bottle- you can put it in a ziploc bag (to protect it from the elements) and then adhere it,or you can tape over it with a clear tape (Clear packing tape works great, but I just ran out of it, so I used scotch and went around the bottle with it)

337
(please excuse the edit- I wasn't putting my real label up!)

Take it to the post office and have them weigh it for you, and send it on it's way!

Cool!  Does the post office mail them that way?  How fun!

Yes, you can mail this via USPS.

It'd be fun to fill it up with shredded paper, or something, too.

I didn't realize you could mail them that way either.  How clever!

That is neat! Maybe I will send DDs letter to camp that way!

I had a friend who had a beach-themed wedding.  She mailed her wedding invitations in this way.  It was SO cute,

Thanks for the reminder.   Love this idea and will have DD send a letter to her G-ma.  She will LOVE it.  :)

As long as the top of it is securely sealed you're good to go! You can send lots of things you wouldn't think of- we sent a "postcard" on an old CD a few years ago smile.gif
