My family and I are keeping cool by staying inside on very hot days and trying out new recipes, games or projects I have found on Pinterest. I think my kids possibly love Pinterest as much as I do!

We stay inside during the hottest parts of the day and stay hydrated. At night I open all the windows and set fans up to suck in as much cool air as possible. In the morning before we leave I close windows and shades and try to keep the cool air inside as best as I can. The same premise of sealing drafts in the winter works exactly the same to seal out hot air in the summer. We don't have ac or central air, so you've just got to be smart about it.

We also go to the beach, lake, or river often and set up the sprinklers outside for the kids (and us and the pets!) to play in.

We keep the house set at 74 and make sure the blinds are drawn.  We do a lot of indoor activities around town like going to McDonald's playland, the local bounce house business and the library.  It stays well above 100 most of the summer here in Texas, so being outside is no fun!

We love splash parks, and our local outdoor shopping mall has some spray fountains that are fun, also.  Our favorite activity so far has been to make sponge splash balls that we found on Pinterest.  Cut kitchen sponges into strips, secure in the middle with zip ties, fluff them into a pom pom shape.  They take much less set-up time than water balloons :), are reusable, and the kids have been having a blast!
