Totally digusted with our insurance company

I found out that I did something wrong with paper work and we've over paid like 700 dollars and we can't get our money back because it was negligence on our part, I still don't think it's right for them to keep our money!

I don't know how you go about doing it, but I'm sure you can fight that somehow. That is totally wrong. Unless you mean you did something wrong that meant they didn't have to pay? Like you didn't sign up for enough coverage or signed up for higher copays? Maybe if you give more details someone else can help you.

That doesn't make any sense. Our insurance company always reimbursed us if it was found that we paid for something we shouldn't have. The reason didn't matter. If it was the paperwork, then they would have us fill it out again the right way.

I'm not sure either.  When I first started working full-time at my current job and Dh was out of work, they put me in the wrong insurance plan--the high deductible-that was meant only for the owners who were older.  J ended up going to the emergency room and for the two months I was on the policy--I racked up $2K in bills.  When renewal time came, I noticed that our plan was entirely different--co-pays instead of meeting the yearly deductible first.  The stupid secretary (I'm a secretary so I can say that) told me she originally put me on the wrong plan.  Nothing I could do about it except make sure she wasn't stupid again.

What kind of mistake did you make?

The way I view it is if you make a mistake on your paperwork (depending what the mistake is) then you are liable for the costs associated with whatever coverage was necessary to meet the criteria you provided. If they made a mistake on their end and not because of information you gave and they overcharged you, then of course they should provide a reimbursement or credit your account the difference.

The only situation I have experienced is when I wanted a refund on previous premiums. For instance, let's say I have auto insurance on three cars. I sold one and didn't tell my insurance company it was sold. My current company would ask when I sold it and refund my over-payment of premiums from that day forward. However, some companies just reduce your premiums from the day you CALL forward. So let's say you make a six-month auto insurance payment on July 1st for 3 cars. One July 2nd you sell car #3 and on July 3rd you call to tell the insurance company that they can stop insuring the extra car. They can't say, "Oops, sorry. You paid to insure three cars. Your premiums will be reduced 6 months from now." They have to refund your money.

Every year we have to waive the spousal surcharge since I don't have coverage through an employer, if I did and didn't take my employers insurance and stayed on my husband's then we would have to pay that surcharge. I apparently didn't do it this year and we have been paying this surcharge for over 7 months

Yeah, all they're going to do is correct it going forward. There is really no way to prove you didn't have coverage before. I know it is silly. Be thankful it is only $700.
