A moose totaled my car this afternoon. - Page 3

glad everyone is okay - totally stinks about the car.  You really are having quite the month(s).  I vote for a vacation on a beach somewhere for you too!! How scary for you though, I think of what I would do if something were to jump out of the road while I'm driving (cause my dh is always saying just hit it - the deers here are crazy for that) but I think I would be inclined to swerve to avoid it and end up in a ditch!! Yikes!!

One of the bonus saw my car on a truck being shipped out of town today. frown.gif And evidently there was a dead moose getting picked up near my accident spot as well. frown.gif I knew it hadn't died on the spot but I still did not see how it could survive that hit. frown.gif

I know there was nothing I could have done differently, it jumped out of no where and ran in front of one car and hit mine. I was going the speed limit and paying attention to the road. The weather was perfect, middle of the day. But I still hate to be involved with any animals death.

When hubby hit the deer, the first question that everyone at work asked him was, "Did you pick it up and keep it?" Apparently that is legal here. He eventually started telling people he didn't because we didn't own a freezer yet.

It really wasn't your fault, Mels. Now that hubby is driving again, he says he has almost hit a squirrel and a snake - and both sort of shook him up. It isn't like he is going out there intending to kill critters. I told him I wouldn't have felt bad about the snake. He replied, "Yeah, I almost wish I had gotten him."

I still say, I personally have never seen a moose move quickly - ever. I know people hit them all the time - and wouldn't if given the chance. That alone is the one factor that makes me say "Wow." It is hard for me to imagine a moose ever being that fast that I couldn't get out of its way. I don't think we have moose here in MS, so I'm hoping I never have to experience it.

Speaking of insurance, did you read my reply about our car insurance and how we used to have a $1M umbrella policy. Have you and hubby sat down with your insurance agent and reviewed your auto and home coverage? You have a business in your home and you're using both cars for business so, not only are their tax consequences, but there are some insurance nuances you need to be aware of. Luckily, business insurance is a deductible business expense. Just be aware, there are some "accidents" that your regular insurance company may decide not to cover because the home or vehicle was being used "for business use" and your regular homeowner/auto policy liabilities might not cover you in cases where you were operating a business.

We have checked with our insurance and I had a better policy on our Tahoe, which is our business auto, but I was attempting to be cheap on the Subaru. And it still was covered completely, i just need to bump up the next car as high as the Tahoe.

It now is legal to take home your road kill in Idaho ... of course moose meat was the last thing on my mind.

I need to get over thus stupid accident ... I think I am suffering from PTS. Lol.
