I know its the circle of life and all...

But I can't watch it.  My cats were in the process of killing a bird this morning and I happen to catch a glimps  of it.   I thought the bird was already dead, so I went out to attempt to move it from the front yard  when it started hopping around  squacking like crazy.  Then the cats started chasing it again.    I ended up putting the cats in the house to leave the poor bird alone and let him die or fly away, either way.

I love my kitties, but I can't watch them kill other animals. LOL   Mice and moles are one thng, birds are another! Esp when its still alive!  There was a baby mouse that was still alive the other day when I caught my cat in the process of killing, I picked it up and threw it in the wood pile. LOL!

My cat Clark is an excellent hunter. We are especially upset if he gets a bird or a baby bunny. We did rescue a baby bunny from him earlier this year & set it free. We got a small squirrel & chipmunk away from him too. But those are his favorites to eat, so generally he eats those before we get to him. He used to really like bird heads but now he's just bringing the dead bird home. We don't like that - if he's going to kill it, he should eat it at least. We do try to intervene if it looks like there is a shot to save the animal. Very often it's already dead when he brings it by.

Most of the time they "play" not "hunt". I come across so many birds and critters that the animals have gotten hold of that I think are dead until I go to toss it into the woods and it miraculously comes to life and flips out lol  It's the defense of a lot of animals to play dead, I know it bores my guys enough for them to leave the thing alone.

If I'm there to break something up then I will. It's not like my animals need the food nor will they eat whatever they happen to kill anway. If I'm not around and I come across a bird or whatnot that's succumbed to one of my fat animals I just toss it in the woods. I don't feel bad or sad about the latter situation. It is what it is, and by tossing it in the woods at least something will benefit and eat it.

Clark eats his kills most of the time. Entire squirrels, chipmunks, bird heads. Voles - he doesn't like those, but he'll just kill them. We have seen the few who do "play dead", but Clark especially has a fondness for "brains", so it's pretty obvious when they are dead. We do especially try to get baby bunnies away from him, because we love those little guys, but also because Clark is allergic to them & his neck swells up if he eats a baby bunny.

I can't tell you how many times, Buddy has been caught playing with a baby bird, swatting it with his paw, till the poor bird dies. Then buddy will whine, like I just want him to play.

If I can, I do try to save the little bird.

I do not have cats, but my neighbor has two. One stays inside and the other one is an outside cat mostly. I've found dead squirrels and mice in my drive way. Usually when I'm on my way out. As soon as I close the garage the cat comes out from his hiding and retrieves his piece of meat he was working on before I opened the garage. Gross!

Nope, my cats don't usually eat thier catches, they leave them for me on the back door stairs. LOL   Presents.

Though a few times I've caught my Princess and Colonel, each playing with a dead mouse.  The pick it up, toss it in the air, and bat it around when it hits the ground.  Its kinda comical to watch.
