What have you bought at the farmer's market lately?

Anyone else enjoying the farmer's market?

This is one of the reasons I was thrilled to move back to CA.  The farmer's market is a little far away (they have like 7 but none very close by) but it's worth it!  Here's what I bought today: strawberries, blue berries, raspberries, plumogranate pluots (not sure if those actually are bred with pomegranate, but they are SO good! I should have bought more), green onion, basil, tomatoes, and cucumber. About half of it was organic.

I got all this, plus a big fresh soft pretzel for $18 or so.  We also got free samples of hummus and pita, chips and salsa, bread, tamales, lots of fruit, peanuts, cake, etc etc.

I love that I can support local farmers, get organic produce for less, and try newly invented fruit before I buy it. Also, here the farmer's market is year-round. Score!

DD11 just went on a field trip to our farmers market today. They had a scavenger hunt to do and got to taste different foods from different vendors. On their scavenger hunt list was things like try a purple tomato and who has the lowest price for onions. On the items they tried they had to write how it tasted. She had a good time. I have yet to make it there. It is only on Tue and Sat.

We used to go to the farmer's market here quite a bit. In fact when DD was younger, she and her "quartet" would play there with an open violin case and people would drop in money. So they'd play while we shopped around. We haven't been in several years now though. We keep saying we're going to go, but it's gotten much larger and parking can be a pain. I should make us do that though. Got me wanting to go again.

oh yeah, and my kids love anything pomegranate flavored so those look and sound great!!

Raspberries for a snack

Strawberry rubarb jam (as a gift)

Cinnimmon bread for french toast I cooked up for my dad on his birthday.

Our garden is producing lettuce for salads.

I can't wait for the markets to start getting in fruit like apples and pears.

I am thinking of Jamming again this fall. Markets are the way to go for berries. Although I did get in my own Raspberry plants I am sure next summer I will have my own personal crop
