Would/Do you dress your children in "political" clothing? - Page 2

No.  For years and years I never bought ds any clothes with any kind of statement, writing, characters, logo, anything on it.  Stripes were OK ROTF.gif

Now that he is older, he has asked for an Angry Birds T-shirt and he bought himself a Perry the Platypus T-shirt at Disney, but those were his decisions.  So anything smacking of anything political, until he is old enough to want or buy it himself, a big fat no here.

I wouldn't dress my young child in anything political.  If they were a teenager and felt strongly about one political party or another that's different.

Different topic, but yesterday as I was driving home, I saw a van for a small local business that had a political sticker in the window that I was offended by.  I think it's stupid to put a political sticker on a company vehicle anyway, but this one was particularly degrading and offensive.  Good way to cut your business down is to offend people before you even talk to them about what your company can offer them.  Oh well.  His/her choice to do that.

Other than generic patriotic stuff, we haven't steered DD one way or another politically. We leave that door open for her to decide (although we encourage volunteerism when it comes to political campaigns.)

I would imagine if it was red, white, and blue with stars or something people would know what it meant.

I meant to say I WOULDN'T buy something with an elephant or donkey.  Bleh.

No I would not. One, I think it is a waste of money because if you candidate losses you are stuck with something that is meaningless. Like people with Mcain/Palin bumper stickers on their car. I saw one yesterday that had Kerry/Edward on it. I thought it was silly.

Two, some people can get crazy about their political and religious views, those type of people seem to have no kind of filter on their mouths. I would not want something said to or in front of my kid because of that situation.

I am pretty conservative and my little ones have a couple things with elephants on them but it's not because I look at them and think "republican."  I just like elephants.  They're cute on baby clothes.  They also have zebras and puppies and well you get the idea!

I do grab extra "I voted" stickers at the polling places for them though.  They always go in to "vote" with me and the older people get a kick out of it.  They're proud of their stickers.  And when DH marches with the Legion in the Memorial Day parade, we do the RW&B stuff.  My personal favorite is the "I love my dad" shirt with the flag on it.  Very cute.

I agree that I wouldn't want my kids harassed by anybody though.  We live in a very conservative area and I am sometimes surprised by the tshirts and whatnot other kids have on.  I might agree, to a certain extent, with the message but I wouldn't put it on my kid.

This is one of my pet peeves.  I don't get it either, you're cutting your clientele in half when you do something like that.  There are a few businesses that I drive by on my way to work that have signs up in them now, and I think it is really short-sighted (unless they only want to do business with people who share their views).  There was one business in particular (a restaurant) that I used to get email updates from, and it was a place we liked to eat.  The owner got really political & was writing letters to the editor & really saying some nasty things about people who didn't share his views, so I removed myself from their email list.  It sent a message asking why, and I answered honestly that I didn't agree with what he was doing and they would no longer get our business (I happened to have opposite views of his, but even if I agreed with him, I would have found it offensive for him to be using his business to push his political views and would have dropped off the list).

On topic, no, I have never dressed my children in political clothing.

Yes!  It was a CRAZY amount!  LOL I was really surprised.

They were pretty obviously political symbols - They even called them the "republican" and the "democrat".  :)
