What are the most frugal fifteen items in your pantry, freezer or refrigerator?  Let's see if we can agree on a list of them!  I nominate:

  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Pasta

I would say to go with baking staples. You get more bang for your buck as opposed to boxed mixes and an unlimited number of recipes using those key ingredients.

  • Flour
  • Sugar
  • Salt
  • Baking Soda
  • Baking Powder
  • Oats
  • Cornmeal
  • Yeast

Then for products to round out your baking and for other meal or stand-alone purposes

  • Milk (I believe powdered is still cheaper than liquid?)
  • Eggs

Toward main entrees and sides

  • Pasta
  • Rice
  • Canned Tomatoes
  • Potatos (in any form, I find bags of whole potatos to be the most versatile)

For a 15th item I am going to sort of cheat and say seeds. I think seeds are covered under food stamps though, so if the government considers it a food I'll go with it and say it counts lol

If you hunt or fish meat is free.

Any more "votes" before I compile a Mommysavers-approved list?  What foods would you consider to be in your top frugal fifteen?
