Have you ever totaled a car before? - Page 2

Please! I'm in rural - rural, rural - Mississippi. The claims adjuster drove to the car.

Mine should have been totaled.  It was a week before my wedding and I rear-ended someone.  Since it was a brand new car--they opted to "fix" it rather than give me the $15K. It never was the same.

I think they looked at my car the next day and I had a check within a few days, but then I live in a much more populated area obviously.

I had bought a used car, put new clutch, brakes and tires on it so was planning on it lasting me a while.  I was working second shift and as I was driving home at 11pm, some lady blew through a red light and hit my car as I was going through an intersection.  The car that was behind me was following too closely to be able to stop in time.  My car was totalled and I spent three or four days in the hospital.  The person that hit me from behind told the police that the woman who blew the red light had clearly been drinking, but of course they didn't test her or arrest her for DUI.  This was 21yrs ago and back then I dont think they arrested too many middle-age white women for DUI's in this community.  I am sure if she had been a young guy or a minority she would have been tested.  Anyway, my car was worth more than what the insurance company gave me for it because I had just sunk all this money into it.  I was pretty bummed (and in a fair amount of pain).

The car is totaled, no surprise there, and I am waiting for an offer, she said about an hour. Needless to say, my anxiety is pretty amped up right ow.

Wow that is taking forever! When dh hit a deer last year we had the car towed to a local body shop, and called the insurance. The set us up with a rental car that same day, they contacted the repair shop and approved the repairs the next day.

It took a week. I was given an offer, I wish it had been more but I think it is fair. Now we're trying to figure out our options. Being a responsible adult sucks sometimes.
