Do you have "spending money"?

Do you or your husband have money budgeted that can be spent on whatever? Do you set aside an amount from his, or your paycheck(s)? Or do you just spend what you like, or run all purchases by each other?

I just ordered the Every Day magazine deal that Kim posted.  I wasn't actually planning to tell my husband I was spending that $4.50 (not that I was hiding it, but that I didn't feel like I needed to ask permission or anything) then I remembered that I've been saving some money in Paypal. I get $10 or $15/month residual income from some articles I've written, and I save it just to spend on purchases like this.  So I spent it from there instead.

We both kind of spend what we like, because neither of us makes very many purchases for ourselves.  We don't go out for coffee, or buy ourselves "toys" or anything.

No I don't have budgeted money.  I do sell things on ebay and use the money to buy things with paypal.

We both spend what we like. We don't generally run purchases past each other unless, maybe it's going to be over $500, and in that case it's usually something we would go pick out together anyway.

Overall we are both somewhat careful with our spending so there is no issue for us to spend what we want when we want, go to dinner if we like, whatever. We have plenty in savings.

The other day hubby asked if we needed to get cash-back while we were making a purchase and I told him, "Oh honey, I don't need spending money. I have a debit card."

Hubby likes to take out $20-$40 per paycheck so he has cash on-hand. He very, very rarely has reason to use cash or even make a purchase. He pretty much goes from home to work and home again. His only stop is to buy gas and he pays at the pump for that.

I pretty much use the debit card for everything. I have the budget running in my head (when I'm not at home to look at it.) I know if we've got X-left in the "dining" account or if we need to less generous with the amount of groceries we're buying. DD's clothing allowance is separate and I know how much we have in that month-to-month. That's probably our worst expense, other than major purchases, right now.

I get my check cash every week, and that is E and mine "blow money". I just give him half and I keep half.

[No, we don't have a budget, we just spend whatever. But we are mindful of how much money we are spending and have.

We budget a set amount towards bills and savings and then we split the extra for our own spending money. We can use that money for whatever we feel like. It doesn't affect any of our need-to-pay expenses. Granted when things are tight it's the first thing to go, but otherwise I'm free to buy whatever I darn well please and him as well. I generally just save mine because I am just that cheap lol

We pretty much spend what we want but keep our budget in mind.  We've always agreed that purchases over $300 need to be discussed before buying.

No.  We pretty much are free to spend what we like.  Out of courtesy, we usually do consult with each other when it is a splurge.  Dh will always ask if it was okay for him to buy new shirts he needs.  And I will usually do the same when I need something that costs more than $50.  It's not like either of us will say no.  But if either of has concerns about our financial situation, then we'll discuss it before the person makes the decision to buy something.

Actually we are on such a tight budget that we do. We get our allowance at the start of the month. It has to cover all the little things. DH does go out to lunch with the guys like once a week. I might pick up a little something here and there. Although we shouldn't we do go out to eat and that money has to cover that too. Once the cash is gone though its gone until the next month. I wish we were in a position where we could spend a little more on the fun things.

Yes we normally bounce even minor purchases off each other.
