Do you consider chicken pot pie a" winter" time food

Our church is having a potluck dinner in 2 weeks. I told them I would make 2 chicken pot pies. One of the ladies informed me that chicken pot pie was a Winter time only dish.

I told her that I am sure the chickens didn't know winter from summer and I thought we would be ok.ROTF.gif

Needless to say, she didn't laugh!!!

If that's the case, then shouldn't any hot dish be considered a winter time dish? Make the pies. People will eat them and they'll like it.biggrin.gif

i do consider chicken pot pie to be a "winter dish" but if someone offered to bring a few to a potluck, I certainly wouldn't criticize! I'm always appalled by all these people who feel they need to order other people around. I don't have that kind of time.

I consider it a fall/winter dish, but I also would not criticize someone who wants to bring one.

For the most part, I do not use my oven in the summer. So any dish that would go in the oven instead of on the stovetop or grill is a "winter" dish to me.

I LOVE chicken pot pie and would eat it any time of year. It does seem like it might be harder to serve at a pot luck than some other foods and I might not consider it a good choice for a potluck, but I don't think of it as a winter food.

Other than seasonal produce, I don't consider any food a "summer" or "winter" food. If I want chili in July, I'll make chili in July. If I want cold pasta salad in January, I'll make cold pasta salad in January.

I use my oven year-round.

I use my oven year round too. I'm always surprised by how many people don't.

I have two glass Pyrex baking dishes that are bigger than a cake pan. I fix my chicken pot pies in those, and they are not that bad to slice and serve. I have been doing this for years and they work out fine.

I agree with that.  To me, it's PURE comfort food.  It's also great on a cool, rainy summer day.
