Met DD's teacher today.

Loved him. I think they will do great together.

To catch everyone up. I was very excited about DD's 3rd grade year. At her school they had three third grade teachers, all of high quality. Two of them retired and the third moved to a different grade. The replacements ... one was a combination class of high functioning second graders and low end third graders taught by the teacher who headed up the local teacher's union and whose passion is teacher's rights, not really her students. My DD is not a low functioning child and since my DH is on the school board and the teacher could not separate DH from school board member from parent, it was determined she would not be in that class. The other two teachers, one I wouldn't allow teach my dog and the other, while I like her personally, she is a weak teacher. Both of these teachers are on probation and I don't expect them there next year. But my concern was this year, not next year.

Anyway, after a lot of complaints, they removed the teacher I liked personally and brought in a man. We met with him today and I think he and DD will do great things together. I feel really good about this coming year. We explained, we have a very gifted child but we also have, in some ways, a special needs child. This teacher, though he is new to third grade, is a long time teacher and he also is a special education teacher. Plus, he comes from the "hippy school" thst we considered putting DD at.

And now, maybe we can put to rest some of the rumors I keep hearing about my daughter and her education because her dad is on the school board. Rumors are just insane and I wonder who comes up with them.

Well that is good to hear for sure!!!  It sounds like you are getting the best of all worlds!  Hurrah!

So you are keeping her in the same school and not switching her?  (Just making sure I understand.)

Must feel great to have the decision made and to feel so good about it!  Hope she has a great year.

We kept her in the same school. The school is a little over a mile from my house and her friends are there. Looking back, should we have put her in the hippy school to start with but we didn't and she didn't want to move.

Do you know what class the girl who was being mean to your dd is in? Getting them separated was one of the big reasons behind checking out the different schools I thought, hopefully they don't go after this guy too.
