Do you buy alcoholic beverages? - Page 2

I enjoy a glass of wine at dinner time.  I don't drink to get drunk ever.  At J's wedding, I had the a toast of champagne and drank club soda the rest of the night.  I think my in-laws thought I had a hangover the next day (got a migraine) because I was dancing all night long--but I don't need to drink to loosen up.  I just find it relaxing to have while I'm cooking.

I like the taste of dark, heavy beers. One or two, and I'm satisfied. And I don't drink every day. It has been over a month since I bought beer.

I like the taste of certain cocktails - again, one or two, and I'm satisfied. I don't have those often either, becaue I will only buy quality liquor and it's expensive.

I'm not big on wine.

Once in a blue moon, I will go on a bender, but only if I don't have to drive and have no responsiblities for anyone but myself the next day.

I joke about drinking a lot more than I actually drink.

It kind of sounds like you do care smile.gif .  Alcohol is not a big part of my life at all, here in Utah it is such a pain in the neck to even get alcohol not like in Ohio when I could simply go to the grocery store.  I do like a glass of wine with Italian food, and I recently went to the Liquor store and bought a huge jug of Chianti that I can have on hand at home.  This actually has been the first time that I bought wine since I've been in Utah (2 years in January).  Dh likes a beer once in awhile (maybe every two weeks?)  Many months go by sometimes that we don't consume any alcohol at home.  I do not buy it at restaurants, too expensive, but dh will once in awhile.

I actually don't think it is all out bad for you at all...how is it worse than junk food when used in moderation?  Personally I think eating junk and processed food is WAY worse than having a drink once in awhile (once a week?  twice a week?)  Sure you don't eat junk food 24/7, so neither do you drink 24/7 either.  And I don't do the evening out drinking ever...I don't drink to excess, and I'd much rather drink in a home setting.  When I was 22 or so I drank a LOT one night and was the sickest I ever was and never ever did that again.

Moderation as in everything is key.  And expensive?  IMO junk/processed food is way more expensive than a bottle of wine (ours) that lasts weeks and weeks.

This is definitely me.  If I think I Need one, I do not have one.  I have alcoholics on both sides of my family, plus dh does as well.  I can see myself becoming that mom that needs to have a drink, and that's why I definitely don't.

I don't get the expense of drinking at a bar. I wish I had that kind of disposable cash! We do have a bottle of alcohol in hte house basically a all times for my migraines. A mid sized bottle of Malibu lasted us almost 2 yrs. On hot hot days like we have had lately nothing tastes better than an ice cold beer, IF we have it in the house. A case lasts 2 months or more easy here. If I had to put a price on alcohol in our house I would say we spend maybe $50  year tops.

We don't go to bars - I didn't even in college. We don't order drinks out very often due to price - we might come home after dinner & have a drink instead. But for some occasions, we will order wine or a drink w / dinner. Just not the norm. Cheaper to drink at home.

I guess the part I don't get is why it is such a major part of so many people's conversations. I don't bring up my drinking pop all the time like so many people talk about drinking all the time. And don't preach all the healthy foods and lifestyles if you go on a drinking binge once a week or more (not referring to anyone here)

People enjoy different things. Enjoying alcohol, enjoying the effects of alcohol is no different than enjoying your running high or enjoying your late night piece of chocolate. Alcohol is just widely enjoyed by many different people. It doesn't mean they drink to excess. What about Europe? Wine is common at every meal, every day, even for children. Would you condemn them for their tradition just because it's one that you don't share?

I'm not the sort of person that will sit around and discuss my drinking habits for fun.  Once in a while when we plan a GNO, we'll plan on drinks, and maybe suggest a drink to someone to try, but as a rule I'm not one of those people that announces my drinking, or brags about it.  IF you are hearing alot of brags, I'm willing to bet they are 'kids', college age or in their 20's who are still new and facinnated with the drinking/bar scene.  I used to be that way, in my college days, we went looking for parties and the purpose was to drink, be drunk and have stories for later.  I am WAY over that stuff now.   Yes I drink occassionally.  I buy a bottle of wine and MIGHT have a glass or 2 once a week or so.   I buy cocktails and enjoy them in the evening after the kids are in bed.   My friends and I do joke on Facebook about drinking, but we do it because we're parents and its all in good fun, its a joke. None of us drink to excess every day, and we don't brag about it.
