Anyone had ovarian cysts?

My doctor suspects I may have one on my left side.  Honestly, I didn't really even notice anything but when I looked up the symptoms it was like, "Oh yeah, I did notice that..."

I need to schedule a vaginal ultrasound (sounds like fun, eh?) to confirm it.  Has anyone had them?  What can I expect?

Actually, we get an ovarian "cyst" every month that there is ovulation. However, it is a problem when they grow large. I've had a couple during infertility treatment since the hormones they give tend to cause lots of eggs grow in hyper-mode. I don't remember the treatment, but I do remember the vaginal ultrasound. It just might make you laugh. After it is done, tell me if you disagree (I'm not trying to be insensitive, but there are aspects of a vaginal ultrasound that are humorous.) I'm sorry you're in pain. Let us know how it goes.

I've had them since I was a teenager - that is why I was so irregular, only getting maybe 4 periods a year. I never FELT anything. I've had them as big as a grapefruit without knowing. My doctor put me on the pill to get rid of it & regulate me. No problem - I was on the pill for nearly 30 years. Now I'm off the pill and, wouldn't you know it, I'm suddenly regular. Or, worse, my period comes every 3 weeks. I guess my body is making up for the missing ones when I was younger.

I've had a TON, and I do mean a TON of vaginal ultrasounds. I had one every day when I was doing in vitro, and I've also had numerous ones for my other GYN problems. They're not too bad. It's like (get ready LOL) a dildo with a cord on the other end that they stick up you and then move around a bit to get views of different areas. It doesn't really hurt at all but might be a bit embarrassing at first. But I never think they're a big deal.

I've never had an ovarian cyst, so I'm not much help there.

It doesn't hurt at all, I've had alot of them. The surgery I had to remove them was pretty darn painful though for about two weeks

i had one at age 44 and they removed it and the ovary it was wrapped tightly around. it did not bother me at all. i had no pain( i have a high threshold for pain). the remaining ovary has one wrapped around it now and they will be doing the same testing soon( well novemebr is the earliest they can get me in for the vaginal ultrasound...got to love OHIP here)...then it will be a wait of several months( well into the new year) before they yank it out. i wanted BOTH removed at age 44 but they said they would not do it.

WOW?!?!? Why so long? I could probably get a vaginal ultrasound done here within a week and no more than another week for surgery. Are you in Canada? If so, just another example of why I'm not enthusiastic for socialized medicine. If you're not in Canada, then why such a long wait? I just can't get over that you can't have the surgery for over 6 months!!!!!

The ultrasound isn't bad...Aliadam described it perfect. My first one, I actually lol'd when the nurse rolled the condom down on it...I didn't mean to, but I tend to giggle when I get nervous, and that just made me laugh even harder.

The removal process was a different story. We'll cross that bridge if you come to it wink.gif

Ultrasound is on Monday.  I'll update then!  I hope it's nothing more.  These "concerns" always make me nervous.
