What's the most radical thing you done to just get by when money has been tight?

I can't think of anything just too radical that I've done except for maybe catching rain water to put in the washing machine where we used to live

I remember having ketchup sandwiches when I was kid and we were living off base. We apparantly went through a very bad period that my mother doesn't even like to talk about. It's funny though, I don't remember ever feeling poor.

As an adult, hubby and I put our thermostat at 45 one whole winter. We simply couldn't afford propane and at the time had no other heating options. We figured that temp would be enough to keep the pipes from freezing. As if I have to say it again (I know I've mentioned it a bunch of times), if you are in an area where you have a substantial heating season GET A PELLET STOVE  I love that thing just about as much as I love my kids.

I was a lab rat once for a study at the hospital. I got $300 to do a test and to do an MRI while looking at pictures. I just about freaked out after an hour in that tube, but I made it.

I LOVE MRI's. Forced to lie down and be still for a couple hours? How awful! wink.gif

This thread makes me think of the George Lopez show where Geoge and Angie have a contest to see who can live most frugally! LOL

Most radical thing I have done was close off the vents in all rooms except the bedroom (keeping all doors closed) adn keeping heat set on 60 for a month in the winter once.

I never seen that episode, sounds good! I'm thinking this winter I'm going to need to keep the heat down also but we had a REALLY mild winter last year I'm hoping for the same this time around
