Frugal kids closet organization?

Thread Starter

The girl's closets drive me crazy.  Their clothes are organized but their is all this other stuff in the closet that is a mess.  I try to put things in bins.  We have an under-the-bed box for miscellaneous items.

Do you have any frugal tips?

Visit you local Dollar Store. Ours has tons of storage options.

What kind of stuff are you trying to organize? Toys? Shoes?  Or, if you don't know, I vote get rid of half of it before bothering to organize, especially before you buy something. cool.gif

I have 3drawer rolling cart found at target- 1 drawer for undies, 1 for socks and 1 for wash clothes.

Everything else is hung on hangers

I thought I replied but it looks like it didn't make it ... can you photograph the closet and post a picture?

This is similar to what I have - mine was $10 for each.  Each kid has one.  The advantage of it is the kids can reach their own socks and stuff.

Re-use things if possible.

When we got a new entertainment center we  took the old one (a corner unit) cut the corner off and have been using that.

We have a small chest of drawers in her closet. I think it was $10 at a garage sale.

DS I used Plastic File boxes and took the lids off. They were a better deal and the right size.

One more add. I just did this yesterday but I got out plastic bags I had saved from when we had got bedding. Clear heavy plastic with zippers. We made stuffed pillows with the larger ones and stuffed them with the million stuffed animals lying about. She can still get them out but it is more contained. I saved a lot of them so a bag for polly pockets, barbie's things, Happy meal toys, etc. Trying to not have a tone of loose little things everywhere. Still have to finish but it has been a huge help with all the mess in her room.

I used to use those zipper linen bags, too. They were fantastic. I swear they should sell those separately.

This isn't super-frugal, but it is priceless, to us.  We have 2 of the Martha Stewart storage organizers.  One in white and the other in brown.  We put the white one in DD's bedroom, and bought pink and green (girly girl) canvas baskets to go in it.  (The brown on eis in the playroom.)  It is super-cute and manages to make her messy closet manageable.  HTH!  :)
