Meat is so expensive that I _______. - Page 2

We hunt to supplement our meat as much as possible. In an extremely meat and potatoes household it is the only way I can keep us fed. We go through approximately 10-12 lbs meat/week and that is with two young kids. If I'm lucky they'll be vegetarians by the time they're teenagers or else I'm screwed LOL

Stock up when I see a sale, especially Manager's Specials sales.

Wish I had the will power to go vegetarian!

Instead of making it the centerpiece of a meal, sometimes I just make it an ingredient. Instead of everyone having their own chicken breast with a side of rice and a side of vegetables, I cut up a couple of breasts into bite size pieces, and put it in a stir-fry/casserole/pot dish with the rice and vegetables. That way, two chicken breasts can feed three people for at least two meals.

We almost always do this. It's very rare for us to have a piece of meat on a plate.

I just usually buy whatever meat is the loss leader for the wk. We DO eat a whole piece of meat at almost all dinner meals. Sometimes they're smaller like only 4 oz, but I am not going to stop serving meat. Especially to my teen son. I usually give him a double portion of meat.

We have several vegetarian meals every week. Thankfully we are not a "meat and potatoes" family and no one has ever complained about not having meat on their plate. As long as they have enough on their plate and can go for seconds, they're all happy.

I look for grocery bargains on other items at stores like Aldi so we can eat good quality meat. We prefer good quality meat and mostly buy meat at one of our two favorite meat markets. I make atleast one meat free meal a week.

One way I save is that I buy a whole NY strip at the meat market and they cut it anyway I want it. I have to trim it a little but I pay $2.79 a pound for a whole one instead of $5-$8 a pound for trimmed.
