Do you short-order Breakfast and Lunch?

I think most of us just make one thing for dinner and expect everyone to eat it. But what about breakfast and lunch? Do you let your kids pick what they have? Do you give them some acceptable choices?

I usually let my kids pick what they want for breakfast, unless I cook something.  For lunch, I give them a few choices - sometimes we have leftovers, other times they can pick a hot dog or sandwich or whatever.

For breakfast everyone gets what I'm making or they can choose to have cold cereal. For lunch they generally can have their pick of sandwiches or have a sandwich in lieu of whatever I'm making. I'm not going to cook umpteen different things, but making a peanut butter and fluff isn't a big deal. At dinner time the meal is what the meal is.

Everyone chooses their own breakfast and lunch here.

My kids usually choose and make thier own breakfast and lunch.   Breakfast is usually a bowl of cereal, oatmeal, or toast. DD can make eggs now so sometimes she will do that.   Lunch is usually a sandwich, or they heat something up in the microwave, spagettios, canned soup, or leftovers.  Once in a while they will ask me to make something and I will.

Breakfast is completely free choice (although I've had to draw the line at second helpings of candy.) Lunch is an option out of a short list that I'm willing to prepare - or leftovers I want used up. Dinner is what I make.

I short order breakfast and lunch on the weekends. During the week Ds gets to pick his breakfast and I make it, Saturday he wanted french toast so I made it. No big deal took all of about 5 minutes and messed up only one pan. Lunch is from a list a list of choices. Dinner is what I make unless it is something I know Ds will not eat. In which case I make him something I will. He does not like hamburgers on the grill so I will throw on a hot dog for him.  Or tonight we are having smoked sausage with potatoes and onions. He likes the sausage but not the rest, so I will throw a few french fries in the oven. I don't consider this a hassel as usually I am not making a complete other meal. On nights when it is something he will not eat at all, I usually have a kids microwave meal on hand or make him a sandwich.
