Do your kids get embarrassed if you cheer them on at sporting events?

I'm not talking about the crazed parent on the sidelines in need of a tranquilizer dart or Ativan either. I'm just talking about the normal cheering.

Most of the time, they couldn't hear us.  With lacrosse, they were too far away.  With basketball, it was just way too noisy.  We tended to cheer quietly because we didn't want to appear as the crazed fan.

Most of the time ours couldn't hear us individually either. There were always a lot of parents cheering and they weren't that close to the parents in any team sport they played. The only time I can think of is maybe if DD ran by us in a cross country meet, we might call out her name, but otherwise no. We weren't the wild sort of parents anyway. I think they didn't mind us cheering as long as we weren't bringing attention directly on them. DS in particular would have HATED that.

My son is really self-conscious about it.  He doesn't mind so much if dh and I cheer him on a little, but his sister likes to tease him a little bit and that's what he hates.

We are allowed to clap only. League rules. :(

My son LOVES to be cheered on and he is such a ham.  After the game he goes through every play he did and remembers every cheer.  He's got special hand motions out there on the field in case of those "big tackles" to let me know he's okay and just to make sure we're watching.  He loves the "shout outs" we make to him during half time etc - that child is such a wanna be celebrity - goodness help me!!  His brother and sister would rather have us hiding than cheering (so I gotta get it all out during his games) -  I guess it even outs for us when you factor those two in. biggrin.gif

DS hates it but put up with it.
