Back-to-school themed door banner?

I usually like a wreath on my door that matches the season. However, I have searched everywhere here and I can't find a large wreath base I can decorate. Seriously, all that is available is WalMart and JoAnne Fabrics and neither carry a wreath form bigger than 12" - maybe not even that.

As an alternative I thought of making a banner to hang on the front door. I can get fabric. I'd love to make one for Autumn - Back to School. Any thoughts?

I swear Cookie, you are like in another world down there.

If I was making a door banner, in think I would look at making a tree stump with falling leaves. I seem to remember from my elementary years, a teacher doing it (out of paper of course) but I loved it.

Hmmm, I have a spot ... It is large enough. I may do this myself.

You can use a pool noodle and tape it together to be the base for your wreath.  I think someone from her posted about it.

If you want to go super white trash use a wire coat hanger (or a couple if you're going bigger) and bend it in a circle shape, cover it with newspaper, and wrap some duct tape around it to keep it secure. Ta-da, wreath base.

Karen, I think clothes-hanger wire is the base for this kind of wreath ...

I'm not ready to go that Southern yet. But really, good ideas! I think I'm off to the dollar store.

I've seen the pool noodle idea, or you can buy foam core at home depot-type places.

I hadn't heard of the pool noodle idea.  That's a great idea.

I am dying to try this one! I keep forgetting to check the $1 store for the noodles!

I did end up using a pool noodle. I recommend putting a stick or wad of cardboard in the hole to join the pool noodle before taping. It wants to pull apart if you don't.

BTW, as soon as I posted this thread, in a few days I found a great discount craft supply house.
