Bedtime for 10 year old? Summer and school year. - Page 2

Our summer schedule is varied. It really depends on what is going on. I still put her and her brother to bed at the same time but, with her Kindle, she stays up a bit later and reads and really, that isn't such a bad thing. But with school starting back in about a month, I need to get them straightened out into our more normal schedule.

I do understand wanting a bit of time to yourself to unwind after a long day though, Stormy, DD is staying up late and her brother gets up early. I am finding my me quiet time is at 2 am when I wake up.

I can't imagine a late or no bedtime. I need some quiet time in the evening and I also have to get homework done, so my kids are out of luck. During the school year, they are in bed around 7 with lights out at 8. (they have about an hour of reading time) During the summer, they wake up at the same time, there is no sleeping in, unfortunately. I planned on keeping the same bedtime, but it is still so bright that didn't work. I pushed it back an hour for the summer, so they are in bed by 8 with lights out at 9. My youngest two are still normally out by 8, but it gives the older two more time.

When the oldest three were in VA with their dad, he let them stay up all night watching tv if they wanted. Then they would sleep all morning. It has been hard getting them back on their schedule.

During the summer we are WAY lenient- there are nights DS (10) stays up until 11 or 12 (one night we fell asleep before him and he informed us he watched TV until 1 AM redface.gif) , but he still gets up at 8/8:30 with no problem. DD is 12 and she loves her sleep so she is usually in bed in the summer by 10 or 11 and gets up whenever she feels like it (between 9 and 11).

That all said- when school starts- they are both upstairs at 8, in bed by 8:30 and lights out at 9. They get up around 6:45 to be ready and leave for school at 8.

All of my kids (5-11.5) go to bed at 9:30 in the summer. They get up at different times in the morning... some sleep late others don't.

During the school year, they go to bed at 8:30 (all of them), This year, I am thinking of letting my older 2 (10 and 11.5) go to bed at 9:00.

We are on the same schedule as the school year. We were out on our boat at 8:30am today. Dd6 is in bed at 7:30 for storytime. Dd9 is allowed to read until 9.

They get up at 6:30 for school. They sleep unil 7-7:30 right now.

Oldest ds school year goes to bed by 9:30 up no later than 6:30(naturally)

Younger two school year 8pm they are 5 almost 6 and 8 but those two naturally are tired by that time.

in the summer my two younger naturally go to bed between 8 and 8:30 unless we are out and about and get home late.

Oldest goes to bed around 10:30 he is a night owl but is still up before 7 naturally and does not seem affected by it.

My original plan was for DD11 to go to her room at 9, lights out at 10. Yeah, that hasn't worked out so well for me. Neither has my litte kids 7pm bedtime. It has been closer to 9 all summer. Schoo starts in less than a month so I told DD11 that she  back in her room at 8, lights out by 9. She will no longer be allowed to sleep in past 9. Couple weeks and wake up will be 8. We have major issues in the am.

Oh he'd be fine if he went to bed around 11, BUT my intent is to have some time that I am winding down before I go to bed, plus - I'm not trying to be judgemental.  But if ds is up that long, he is watching TV.  He reads in bed at night even if he goes to bed later, so he reads anyway.  And the longer he is up, the longer I feel like I am "on".  Plus dh and I need some alone time.  My patience (even though ds is really good) wears thin at night, and just don't want to be 'on' anymore.  Plus since we watch tv as a family, he'd be watching way too much TV, And then we'd never be able to watch shows that interest Us and aren't kid oriented, you know.
