Here are some of the experiments we have done this summer.

We used a whole bar and ended up breaking it in half. So I would suggest breaking it in half an doing each half for about 1 1/2 minutes. I wished my light bulb had been working in the microwave it would of been fun to watch, but Ds thought it was magic. Afe words you can use the soap, Ds thought it was fun to break off pieces and wash his hands with it. We went outside and broke it up with our hands making it snow. Coolest thing we have ever done!

Second our terrarium!

Jar was thirteen dollars at Walmart, six dollars for the plants, dirt free from the yard. Snails and worms came with the dirt. Ds loves that we only have to water it about once every two weeks usually because he keeps lifting the lid off. He loves to see the snails appear in the morning and disappear after we open the curtain to let the light in. We have not seen the worms yet, but talk about what they are doing in the dirt. When we built it we but in cucumber peals and pieces of toliet paper roll. We were able to talk about many basic topics such as nutrition for the soil, the water cycle, worms and now snails. It is also so pretty see all those plants in his room.

I've never seen the soap clouds. Did you just nuke a bar? The kids would love watching that grow. Heck who am I kidding, I want to watch it grow lol

I put a piece of wax paper down and put the bar in the microwave. It was pretty awesome. If you have a small microwave break the bar in half. Ivory soap works the best, and there are activities you can do with after you are done. One lady broke them up, added food coloring and let the kids press the soap into molds and made molded soaps. Ds only wanted to break it up and make it snow so that is what we did. I told my sister it would be pretty to have it falling for a christmas card photo.

We have been using baking soda and vinegar to clean various things. DS thinks there must be magic bigs in the mixture that eat the dirt and grime off of the stovetop! LOL We also have played with cornstarch and water a few times.

That sounds soooo fun!  Too bad my microwave is too high up for the kids to be able to watch it grow, but it would still be fun.

You could just pull up some kitchen chairs for them to stand on.  We have a high microwave, too, so that's what I would do.

Our bulb has burned out in the microwave so he could not watch it grow. We just stopped it a couple of times so he could see how it changed. The chairs is a good idea too.
