I need good, inexpensive auto insurance.

My dd just bought a 2006 Cobalt and our insurance doubled!!!! We dropped the liability on our 2002 Cavilier we got rid of and added the new car with our two other cars and it doubled our insurance payment!!!!! Dd is independent, but we are going to help her out with insurance for awhile, but I never dreamed it would be that much for a 6 yr old plain little car!!!! Has anyone tried things like essurance or other online companies? I may just get a policy in her name and pay for awhile. Something has to be cheaper then what we are getting with Progressive!!!

I used essurance for our homeowner's policy. The previous homeowners were paying $2400 a year for home insurance. We're paying $1300.

I haven't priced our auto insurance through essurance because we get such a deep discount with Progressive it is really, really affordable for us. The last time I priced auto insurance no one could touch the policy and premiums we were getting with Progressive but I bet in some markets Geico is cheaper.

I use auto owners insurance for both our home and my car and E's truck and motorcycle. We get a very good rate because we have all of them together.   Just check around that is what I did, and you will be suprise what you will find.

I have heard Geico is very reasonable.  A few of my nieces and nephews went through them.  I am having J look into it as I am encouraging her (very strongly) to get off my insurance.

We just switched ours to All State 2-3 months ago. They were almost half the price of Geico and were considerably less than Progressive who we had at the time. I got rear ended a month ago (I'm sure they were glad they signed us LOL) and they were so easy to deal with. Their customer service has been phenomonal so far.

Although frankly, if she's able to buy a car she's able to put up her own insurance.

I also found Allstate to be cheaper than Geico. I've been very happy with them.

I recommend shopping around. Get quotes from a few companies online.  It is different for everyone, and I make it a point to compare rates every couple years, or if our price jumps suddenly.

When we moved, I compared Geico, Liberty Mutual and AllState.  They were all about the same, so I stuck with Liberty Mutual because I'm very happy with the customer service I get from them.

Comparing, make sure you're looking at apples to apples. I just cost compared on-line and at first Allstate looked to be much cheaper, then I realized they were leaving off a bunch of options (like comprehensive and MEDICAL!) that I have currently and want to keep. Turns out they weren't cheaper at all when I compared with the coverage I really want.

Like Cookie2 advised, look carefully at the coverage.  Make sure that what you compare is adequate for your needs.  Unless if it has recently changed, my state's property damage liability insurance minimum was $25K; several vehicles exceed that amount.  Someone I know was involved in an at-fault accident, and she was very concerned that the other party would not be satisfied with the insurance settlement.

I also consider customer service and how they treat their customers in my decision.  I dropped an insurance company a few years back because their customer service and claims departments stunk.  I rarely file a claim or need anything from them, but when I do, I need them to act as my advocate and act like they care.
