How do you save money on bread?

Well here are the things I do:

-Make my own when I can. We do hang out with friends on the weekend, instead of buy expensive loves of speciality breads I make simple honey wheat and white in my bread maker. Because it is home made it seems special. I sometimes make home made tortillas and flat bread.

-When on sale I buy refrigerator biscuits (like grands) We can never heat a whole can, so I freeze the ones we don't make. Then I can throw just one or two in when we want them for dinner. Also, if we don't get to them before their expiration date I do the same thing.

-I buy loaf bread when it is buy one get one free, or if there is a super price deal. Harris Teeter has B1G1 deals on bread all the time, they also have their store brand bread on E-Vic this week for .97 (limit 2)

-For garlic bread I buy french or Italian bread on managers special. Make my own at home and freeze it. When I freeze it I wrap enough for a serving in foil. Then I can just pull out a packet and throw it in the oven.

What are your ideas??

Walmart and Aldi have good, soft bread at good prices. Kwik trip always has good prices, though it is not as soft. We are pretty picky and won't freeze bread, so that limits our options.

I buy the expensive specialty breads off the day-old rack and freeze them.

I make my own.

I buy several loaves of sandwich bread when they're BOGO and freeze them.

We just hit Aldis. When I need a specialty bread for a recipe I hit the day old stuff.

Walmart has a 40% off rack for day-old bakery items like croissants, garlic bread, French bread, etc.

I buy on sale. For your standard loaf of bread I only buy whole grain wheat, preferably Arnold, so when I see a good deal I'll stock up. I also hit up the Friehoffers bakery outlet and get bread there if I don't have a better deal elsewhere. They are less expensive than any regular price generic.

Get creative, if you don't have sandwich bread that doesn't mean you can't have sandwiches. If you don't have rolls that doesn't mean you can't have hot dogs. I've served up peanut butter and fluff in toasted english muffins, have wrapped dogs in a slice of bread, etc.

Bake. I make bread sporadically, it's something I need to direct more time to. It tastes amazing, has no fillers, you can buy ingredients in bulk keeping your per loaf price very low, and the actual hands on time involved in making it is minimal, it's the waiting around part that I don't manage well haha

Speciality breads and muffins are the perfect way to use up some extra fruit or some veggies, and you can pop those in the freezer also saving you time by allowing you to make a ton at once.

Stock up b1g1 free.  Sams has very reasonable prices on wheat bread.

I buy when it is on sale, but I don't like to stock up too much--only what we'll eat with in a few weeks (I do freeze it).

I've said before that I don't freeze bread. But luckily we have 4 grocery chains nearby, so really just about every week at least one of them will have B1G1F bread. I like the heavier brown breads also.

We are lucky that we have an Aldi's nearby plus a grocery store (a local chain) that does lots of BOGO bread and english muffins and bagels.  Plus, if I am in the next town over there is an Entemans thrift store that also sells Arnold bread and Thomas english muffins.
