Do you own a Deep Freezer?

Do you think it helps save you money because you can stock up on sale prices or spend more because you buy more than you really need?

We have one. It's essential for us so that we can put up meat from hunting/butchering as well as produce from our garden. I also use it to stock up on grocery sales. I only buy items I know we eat, so why buy an item for $3 later when I can buy it for $.50 now?

You have to abide by the general stocking up rule though: Buy what you use and use what you buy. If you are getting something strictly because it's a "deal" but then you throw it out you might as well have just thrown your cash in the garbage and saved yourself the time.

Yes, I like it mostly for freezing fresh fruits and veggies to last for the winter.  I also stock up on breads.

I stock up on frozen pizza, meats and ice cream when they are on sale and I freeze everything from our garden. We eat from our garden all year around.

We have one and I think it saves money.  We buy a lot of frozen foods at Costco, so the packaging is bigger, before we would get home and have the hardest time getting what we bought in the refrigerator freezer.  We would have to limit how much freezer stuff we bought.  We have the tall standing freezer, we were lucky actually got it free from my DH's co-worker.  We don't fill it completely full, so I don't think we buy too much.

I have a stand up freezer that we got when my inlaws died. We didn't buy it. I guess it depends on your needs and personality. I could do without one probably. I personally prefer fresh meat to frozen, although I do keep some frozen meat. We don't eat a lot of frozen convenience or junk food like ice creams, or pies, or pizza, or hot pockets or any of that stuff. I just don't buy that stuff. I also prefer fresh veggies and fruit so I don't even keep much frozen veggies and almost never fruit unless I need it for a recipe. I don't freeze bread either.....I prefer it fresh.

So I do have one, and I do keep stuff in it, but I wouldn't be sad if I didn't have one as I tend to just prefer fresh, not frozen items. If you're a person who likes to stockpile lots of frozen stuff then I think it might be worth it. You also have to figure in that you'll need somewhere to put it and the cost of running it.

We didn't move ours - which I loved - since we didn't know when we'd be able to hook it up again - or where we'd store it in the meantime. I'm looking to replace it but we have a few other purchases to make first.

We bought a 7 cu ft chest freezer a couple of years ago because the old fridge we were using in the garage was sucking up too much energy.  The chest freezer is pretty much always full.  I freeze meats when I get them on sale.  I freeze bread, veggies, cheese, butter, some herbs, and meals that I've doubled for quick, easy dinners.  I think it's a money saver.

The stand up freezer in the basement came with the house when we bought it, and yes it has saved us money.

I love my stand up freezer.  I am a big planner and frequently make meals ahead.  If I am making meatballs, I make 5 lbs of meatballs and freeze most of them.  If I am marinating chicken breasts that I bought on sale, I will marinate a few lbs and freeze most of them.  When I made a casserole, I make two.  One to eat that night and one to freeze.  It really helps us save on the food budget.  Also, at Thanksgiving I will buy an extra turkey to eat later in the year.  They go on sale for so little money at Thanksgiving and they can feed us for a week!
