Have you ever gotten a speeding ticket?

How much did it cost you?

Once, it cost me around $200 and my license. If you tell the cop your spedometer is broken they just assume you're lying and get angry. Fyi lol  (we had the under 21 rule - 30/60/90 day suspension for tickets. If you get a 4th ticket you lose your license until you're 21

That's the only time I've ever gotten a ticket though, and it's long gone from my driving record now. I got a verbal warning one other time for speeding, it was like 2am, I was exhausted and was going 3!!! mph over the speed limit. I was pissed and the cop backpedaled and told me to keep an eye on it. I got a written warning one other time for improper equipment. He apparantly wasn't a fan of wood bumpers.

Admittedly I speed a lot though. I'm just much better at spotting the popo now biggrin.gif

I got a ticket on my old college campus. It was a big curved hill were you were supposed to slow down, and normally I did, but I had a friend in the car and we were talking. I completely blew off the speed reduction and the cop sitting there.

I noticed he was left handed, I am left handed too, attempted to "bond" with him over our shared trait and, well, it didn't work.

I have gotten the photo ticket twice for going 38 in a 25, those are $40.  I also got two speeding tickets, I think they were $90.  I am horrible about paying attention to speed traps.

I haven't had one in about 10 yrs. That ticket cost me a whole whopping $1. I went to court to protest it. I was the 5th car in a line of cars. I was just keeping pace wiht them and admittedly not watching the speedometer. THe other cars did not get tickets. In court I also told the judge my mind was not on my driving and rather on the fact that my DHs idiot dr refused to switch his heart med to something we could afford, instead telling me coldly to call him when DH had a heart attack. This conversation happened just before I left for work. Judge took mercy but said since I did plead guilty (watched others get nailed hard for pleading not guilty) he had to fine me something and a dollar it was!

Funny you ask this, I actually just got one almost a month ago.  I was going 39 in a 25, didn't even realize it was a 25 zone.  And I can't really use that as a good excuse though because I live right by there.  The ticket it is supposed to be $145.  I have an appointment to talk to a hearing officer to see if I can get it reduced.

Hmm...learned a few things.  Saying the speedometer is broken and trying to bond with the officer do not work.

My last one was a few years ago (I think it will be off my record in September or I might have another year) that cost me $95.  I was speeding and didn't even attempt to lie to the officer.  He was very nice.  I have had cops that bark at you and they are not very nice.

J talked her way out of one.  She had a momentary lapse--she had been doing the speed limit and then started speeding up, not paying attention.  The copy had been behind her for awhile and knew this, so he let her off with a warning.

I didn't lie, it was a 40 year old car and most things didn't work on it lol

No one wants to know the history of all the speeding tickets I've gotten in my life. I've forgotten how much they cost. I know they're spendy. One time I got stopped for speeding three times in one day. I was driving from CA to ID in a rented van. To make things worse, I was on mega-doses of prednisone and venturing into psychosis. Well, apparently the rental place had put on new wheels or tires and the speedometer wasn't working correctly. When I had to go through a town with a 25 mph zone, I would be perfectly at the right speed by the speedometer, but one cop told me I was perfectly over the speed limit by 5 or 10 miles. I got off on the first two tickets but couldn't avoid the third one. I was almost home and it was late and due to the prednisone it was hard to concentrate or even see clearly. I was trying to cross a bridge and I can barely make out that there are bright lights on the other side. My brain is going all over the place with why those lights are there. Is the bridge out? Is there an emergency? An arrest? I was thinking about that and didn't slow down for the bridge. Oops, the lights were the headlights of a cop car on the other side.

One ticket about 16-17 years ago. I know it was over $100
