Do you pay fees for public school?

I have heard of some people paying quite hefty fees for their kids to attend public schools. Doesn't seem right to me!

There are fees for our public schools but they aren't much and they can't force you to pay them so there are several families that don't.  I know the PTC here tries its best to help cover those costs for those who can't afford them.

So far, the only two fees I know about will be a locker rental fee (it's been $5 in the previous years) and a band fee (it's been $50 in previous years).  I'm not sure if these fees will go up or if we'll be hit with any additional fees.

Not until high school - then there is a fee to play sports.  And a deposit for a laptop computer but you get that back at the end of the year if the computer is still in good shape.

There are fees here. We don't pay them because we fall under hte income guidelines. Or at least we have the last 4 yrs. Guessign we will again this year. If I am not mistaken they are around $150 a year.

The high school has fees for the extra course materials, depending on what course they take.  Art will have a high fee since there are a lot of materials needed.

This year our charter school is asking for a $10 supply fee. Otherwise that is it. I pay for extras like sports and marching band.

In Indiana you pay book rental fees that are usually over $100, especially in the upper grades. There are additional fees for music (band, orchestra etc) also. we had costs involved w/ sports, but I'm not so sure they were FEES so much as equipment rental and tons of fund raising and parent club dues. Not sure about anything else.

Public school is what your taxes pay for. Obviously if the child participates in an extracurricular activity there may be costs associated with that. Paying money for your child to attend a public school is absolutely ridiculous. Paying money for your child to have the required reading material is ridiculous. Paying to have a locker is ridiculous. School is mandatory, and taxes pay for public school. If you want to send your child to a private school then you can pay of course.

No fees for Elementary school.  The PTA is even providing supplies this year.
