Hubby's rash on his arm is in the process of healing. But it has also spread. We originally thought the spread was from exposure to poison sumac that he didn't realize needed to be washed off. However, now he has the rash breaking out in his arm pits and it has been so long since any possibility of exposure, it can't be poison sumac. Now it looks like he might have shingles (the chicken pox related disease). He is only in his 50's. He is miserable.

I really have to get him into the doctor because he is way too young and healthy to be getting this.

My friend, who is in her 40's, also came down with Shingles.  Hope he gets better soon.

I seem to hear more and more about shingles the last several years. Sounds nasty. Hopefully he can get some relief soon.

eek.  please not shingles!! I'm so afraid I am going to get shingles.  My mom told me I had the WORST case of chicken pox she had ever seen - they were EVERYWHERE!! my tongue, eyelids, private parts...LOL.  I just know I am going to get shingles - and I keep putting off the vaccine because I'm afraid it will just make me get it sooner!!! My dh never had chicken pox - I think we both need to get our butts to get the vaccine!! My MIL has had it forever.  Even though the initial rash went away she still has the lingering effects of the "pain" associated with it!! UGH.  good luck.

My DH, my mom, my MIL all had shingles. Theirs all started on their chest. It usually follows a circular area that follows one of the nerve paths on the chest. I've never heard of it starting on an arm, but I'm not an expert on shingles so don't really know. If it's shingles it's too bad he didn't go in earlier and get medication for it. There's a med that if started early can really decrease the severity and length of the disease. It wouldn't be very effective started this late, but it might help.

My friends' husband got it in his 30's. My mom got it when I was in college. At first she thought it was a rash, and then she got the blisters all around her mid-section, so she went to the doctor. She was hospitalized immediately and quarantined against anyone who had not had chicken pox. Guess what? Me - the college kid living at home had never had chicken pox, but I was living with my mom for the all the time she had the rash and blisters up until they quarantined her. Despite that, I STILL did not come down with chicken pox. Then, as my friends' kids started getting chicken pox, and sometimes I was over at their homes the day before, I still didn't get it. I finally went to the doctor to get the vaccine - he did some blood work on me & told me I was already immune to it somehow.

But my mom's case was very severe - the brought in all the students at the med center to check her out. It can also be triggered by stress.

Yes, anything that weakens the immune system can trigger it. My Mother and MIL were both long term cancer patients and it's common in them or other older debilitated patients. Don't know what triggered my DH's though.

a friend of mine just got over shingles, she is 25 and that is exactly how it started on her.  chicken pox was wild at the preschool our children go to.

Oh i hope it isn't that!  fingers crossed.

My dh had it. He had the rare type that was in his ear, mouth, lips and cheek. It was so painful that Vicodin did not help. See a Dr quick to get him on antivirals, steroids and get pain pills.

My dh got it after a bout of pneumonia that was followed by job interviews for promotion and getting a promotion.

His Dr told him to wait a few months and get a Shingles shot.

OMG how painful I had shingles at eekkk 27. not something I would wish one anyone,. The sooner the  better as if he waits too long to be seen they can;'t do anything to really treat it anymore and it has to run its course,.
