Has anyone ever had problems getting a prescription filled?

I have a chronic skin disease and my dermatologist is great about getting my refills called in.  He never needs to see me.  When I run out of refills, I just talk to someone in the office and they call in a refill for me right away.

The problem I'm having now is the pharmacy (Walgreens).  The doctor's office called the refill in Thursday and I went in Friday to pick it up.  They told me they were out but another Walgreens had the meds and they would probably get it delivered or have someone from their store pick it up and it should be there the next day (Saturday).  They told me they'd call me when it came in.  I never heard anything from them all weekend, so while I was out running errands today I stopped by the store to find out if they'd gotten the meds.  Apparently, the other Walgreens must have tied my meds to the back of a turtle because they still haven't arrived at this store.  The story they're giving me now is that the pharmacist is supposed to be in today at 2 p.m. today and she was going to pick up the meds on her way in.  They told me they would call me (took my phone # for the second time) when they got the meds in.  It's now almost 3 p.m. and I still haven't heard from the pharmacy.  Thank goodness these aren't heart meds or I'd be dead by now.

Is this ridiculous or is this starting to be the norm now in trying to get prescriptions filled?

I have had issues but mostly the drs fault. LOL They got a new computerized charting system. The computer automatically sends the scripts to our pharmacy of choice. The first time they submitted the script for 1 pill, then for 300. Finally for 30. Wasn't super amused then but I can see how it happens. The computer has also autosent every single script DH had on file, including the ones he no longer takes. That was fun to figure out. They filled 4 different scripts for hte same drug, all different doses. Thankfully I knew what I was doing and figured that out. DH brought home all 4 of them. I cut this one in half, gave dh 2 of that one, 1 of this dose plus a half of that dose etc.

I use Target pharmacy and never had a problem.

I hope you get your medicine soon.

I had the exact same issue.  I had a prescription called in.  I never heard from them--not even to tell me that they didn't have it in stock.  When I inquired about it, they said they had no idea when they'd get it in.  My jaw just dropped.  I asked if they could transfer my prescription to a store that did have them in stock.  Finally, they located some at another branch and the person who was helping me told me she lived near that store and would pick it up the next day herself and bring it in.  Thankfully, she kept her word.

I had that problem once and got jerked around.  It was a mess.  The meds were for my 2yo and I needed them.  The next time, I said I'd go to the other pharmacy and get them myself.  Somehow, they worked that out with their computer system.  It hasn't happened since.

We get about 12-15 prescriptions filled per month and 95% of the time have no trouble. BUT.....We have had it happen and it does seem like it's been more frequent in the past year. I think some meds which are really common (cholesterol meds would be an example) they always have on stock since so many people use them. But meds that aren't used as frequently (which might be your med) they no longer keep just laying around, because if no one uses it before the expiration date, they just have to dispose of it. Of course you'd THINK since you get it every month, they'd know by now to keep it stocked, but with my DD's ADD med for example, they frequently don't have it and we have to wait a few days. This past month, my DH got foaming at the mouth mad because we had to wait OVER a week for a med. We use CVS, so it's obviously not just Walgreen's. Luckily, ours have always been meds we COULD wait on, but it still seem pretty ineffective.

I've had this happen a few times, at all different pharmacies.  Once they didn't carry that brand in the smaller dosage I needed.  They sent me to a store about 20 mins. away, it was a pain, but I did get it right then.  I've had to wait sometimes for a few days while they were restocked of other meds.  Thankfully I usually have one kept in reserve of everything (or two) so I can make it a few days if they don't have what I need.  But every time it's happened they have been very apologetic and bend over backwards to try to accommodate me.

Thankfully I've never had a problem if ds needs a script if he gets sick.  THAT would really concern me if ds was diagnosed with something and I couldn't fill his script right away.

I've had problems. Usually we get caught between the "Oh you have zero refills" and "The doctor won't write a refill prescription until he sees you". This has been a particular problem since #1 - we just moved and haven't found regular doctors yet and #2 - when we do find a doctor, they have left the practice since we've seen them. But yes, I've had trouble with the pharmacy, too. Like you they are out of stock and have trouble getting the new supply. I've had pharmacy technicians offer all sorts of crazy replacements along the lines of "it is a different drug but almost works the same" and "you only have to quarter the pill".

Oh and I take low-dose prednisone daily. Invariably I get asked "don't you have to do a taper?" No, I don't taper. I take it every day. I've taken it every day for the last seven years. I'm not tapering off of it. They act like they've never heard of this.

Actually, we have had issues lately too, but never before.  My ds has taken ADD meds for the past 9-10 years and just recently, we've had issues with the pharmacies being out of it and not able to get it.  I went to three pharmacies this past time before I found it at the fourth.  Needless to say, we just went back to the place that did have it this time and I had no issues....except that the name of the pharmacy is "XYZ" Express Pharmacy and there was NOTHING express about it because I sat in the drive thru for 15 minutes waiting on it.

I would change drug stores.

I had to do that with a little rinky dink drug store by the house. In fact, if you remember last year, they even gave me the wrong medication and like a dummy I took them. I was sick for several weeks.
