Grrr a renter left their kitty behind

Looks like we have a new outside pet. A few weeks ago people moved out of a rental by us. We have been hearing some meowing but thought it was the neighbors indoor outdoor cat. Today we investigated. My daughter got a very scared orange tabby to come out from a fenced in storage area next to our garage. He is a sweety but obviously an indoor cat that was dumped outside right before they left. We posted some lost cat posting online and called a near by vet but I don't think anyone is looking for him. They took the time to neuter him but not the time to find him a new home. He is so pretty with yellow eyes and tabby swirls.

We are calling him Lucky. We plan to put food and water out for him and give him a little love each day. If we don't find his home we will try to find a good one for him and take him to the vet for a well check. Poor little guy.

That's sad.  We have a neighbor who just can't keep track of her pets.  We've had her in-house bunnies hopping around our yard.  We were so nervous that some fox or other wild animal would get them.  She was just so spacy.

We went out and bought him a bowl, cheap food and a litter box for the covered porch. We are going to resocialize him and make sure he is litter box trained. If he sticks around we will get him a well check a rabies vaccination and find him a loving home. We already have 2 dogs and a cat.

He is really sweet. He is an orange cat. He has a long face, big ears and tabby swirls that are like a maze on him. He is neutered as well. When hubby goes out for a smoke he curls up around his feet. My guess is my hubby will say lets keep him after a few weeks.

He has decided that our porch is much more comfortable then his previous hiding spot. He was living under an old plastic chair in an overgrown area next to our garage. I think he was hiding close to his old home in hopes that his owners would come back for him. He has not left our porch since the last time we put him on it. He looks like he has hit the jackpot. I think he will be using the litter box within a day or so. Then we might try to find him a home.

I would try and catch him and take him to a shelter where he can be adopted to a family instead of living outside. If not call animal control and they can try and get him. If he is an indoor cat that's where he should be especially if he has been declawed and can't protect himself in a fight outside.

Three of my six cats were dumped/left by neighbors. Two of them are orange Tom cats. I had noticed the neighbor moved and left this poor cat. So I started feeding him. I figured one cat what could it hurt. Sometimes he was so sweet and other times he was crazy wild ... I thought, split personality kitty, till one day I went outside and saw not one but two orange Tom's. Lol. Anyway, we've moved since then and I just packed them up. They live in my back yard and I keep a heard house for them during the winter months.

He is friendly we have been loving him all day. He has been neutered but seems to have his claws. I will not take him to the shelter. Our shelter would kill him within 3 days. Male cats are rarely adopted there. We will keep food and water out for him. Try to get him to use the litter box we put on our big covered front porch. He is sweet and I would rather him be alive and happy hanging out on my front porch then dead at the shelter. If you bring a cat to the shelter they will often just charge you a fee and put them down that day. Our Humane Society is small and is not taking cats.

If I can get him to use the litter box we will either find him a home or bring him in ourselves. If we can't we will just have an outside cat.

What is a heard house? We might have to get one if I can't get him to be litter trained.

If he is outside he is not going to use the litter box. He's just going to go outside.

If you're certain he was an indoor cat chances are he knows how to use one. I can't imagine he was messing all over the house multiple times a day for years. They'd have kicked him out long before if that were the case wink.gif

He is so hungry he has eaten 3 bowls of food since yesterday afternoon. I think he was surviving on puddle water alone. He has gone from frightened to friendly. He has lots of love to give. He has not used the box but has scratched in it. I put a little of my cats used litter in it to tempt him when he is ready to go. He is living on our large covered old fashion sitting porch. Probably take him to vet today.
