"You got The Purse, Mommy"

That is what my five year old said to me tonight. He picked up a local guide book and handed to me. I asked, "Why do I have to carry this home?"

His response? "You got The Purse, Mommy".

I explained, that wasn't the community purse, it was MY purse. But I admit, it does seem that my family tends to dump everything on me and in my purse. Anyone else have this problem?

Absolutely.  I was carrying a tote bag for awhile.  Now I carry a small backpack.  When we go in the restaurant or something, the Nintendo DS and toys get shoved in my bag.  dh is infamous for putting his stuff in my bag, too.

Oh yes, and my husband is the worst offender!  The bigger the bag, the more they feel entitled to ask me to carry.

I don't carry a purse unless we're going to the movies, so nope, I don't have to carry squat. wink.gif

If we are shopping I'll occassionally carry their purchases but I usually have to insist for them to let me carry it. DD especially, she'd lug rocks around. They like to hold their things and carry their own bags. If we're out and about they never asked to be carried either. Once they could walk that was it, they wanted to walk.

Obviously, my girls are older and have their own suitcases they carry shopping, but Dh ALWAYS asks me to put his wallet, keys and cell phone in my purse when we are out.

Well, I would have to carry a purse for that to happen so nope. More like I give my keys to DH to put in his pocket. LOL

The funny thing? I didn't even have my purse last night. I still ended up carrying the book home. Darn little boy.

Yes, I've had this problem, especially with the first round children when I was the one designated to "hold coats" - four kids, perhaps hubby's too.

Eventually the kids get older and they have to carry their own stuff. We recently went to the fair. Hubby had his stuff in his pockets. I had my micro-shoulder bag - I really only need my ID and debit card. DD decided to put her money in a purse then that in little backpack. Sure enough as we walked around more stuff got stashed in her backpack. DD complained, "How come I'm carrying everything?" Ha! Now she knew how it felt to be a mom. We took a break at home and grabbed more daypacks before we went back.

E does me like that all of the time.

When we go somewhere, I have the camera, his water and anything else he might need (beside his billfold) in my purse.

my whole family is guilty of this...I call my purse the community pocketbook and sometimes make fun of all of them because there is soo much of their stuff in there and hardly any of mine.  Between phones, wallets, ipods etc. my shoulder gets a work out.  I tried going smaller on the bag but then I'm usually stuck just holding it all with no place to put it...LOL.  Not a big deal - someone once told me "you'll miss these days when everyone is gone" - so I don't mind so much
