Are you having a break from sports or activities?

We have a one month break from swimming.  It is the only break we get ALL year.  I feel like dancing in the yard with a hair brush singing Footloose or something.  We usually go to the YMCA almost every weekday at 3:25pm. Swim meets start back up after Thanksgiving.

Yes we are on an official break from swimming until October. My dd has been meeting a friend at the Y occasionally to swim laps together to stay in shape.

We took August off from piano. DD and I both needed the break.

I don't know how you ladies manage with the swimming schedule. whenever my kids finish up a sport, I am always pretty happy. DS is finishing t-ball this week and then switches over to soccer when we return from our trip. I am looking forward to the change of sports and I know, mid September, when soccer ends, I will be excited for that too.

Nope, no breaks for us. Club soccer ended last week and school soccer and marching band started this week. The little one finished football camp last week and will soon start fall football.

Not really she has ballet tomorrow. A dance camp in 2 weeks and then we will see about starting her in Ballet again.

There is Girl Scouts. I need to be planning what I am doing with my girls and getting additional training.

We went out of town twice in July ad had a lot going on in between, so I'm happy to have a quiet August. I was thinking ds6 may do a soccer camp for a week this month, but have decided against it. Ds still has gymnastics on Monday afternoon and we have swimming on Thursday afternoon, but that's it for organized activities, and they continue into the school year so I want to get into the groove of going to them before school starts.

I also am amazed at anyone that deals with swim team almost every day for months on end. We considered having ds do pre-compeition swim team just to work on his skills and keep him swimming more, but we're not ready for the time commitment yet.

We never did swimming, but one of my DS's best friends did. He's now in college on a full scholarship for swimming and won numerous state titles while in HS. I know his mother always LOVED the month they were off. (I'm actually sort of surprised your swim break is so long......they only got one month a year off) It was so hard for them to do anything during swimming season and they couldn't miss. Plus there were meets on wknds all the time. For them, swimming has paid off with his scholarship, but it IS a time consuming sport for sure. Probably more than any other sport I know of.

When DS did football it was almost year round. They would get off a bit of time in the summer, but usually they'd still get together to do weights, etc. But it was still nothing like swimming!!

Oh yeah.....and her son couldn't come home from college this summer. He had to stay there and practice.

Aliadam, we only have one month off a year, too.

If we have family plans or something at school, she misses swimming.  We try to make sure she doesn't miss more than 1 day per week.

It would be awesome for the girls to get swimming scholarships, who knows if they will continue to stay interested.  Right now they both loved it.

Yeah, I think I got you confused with deemom who said she was off until Oct. Your girls are still fairly young aren't they? So it might not matter quite so much if they miss, but I know as her son got older they NEVER missed, not even for vacations and things. Everything was planned for that one month off. She'd even postpone his July birthday party until August. But as I said....he's ranked nationally (or at least she always said so) and started winning state comps early in HS, so for them it was VERY serious business.

The scholarship was a godsend to them. He's NOT good academically and struggled TERRIBLY when she finally put him in school. They had home schooled through 8th grade but put him in school at HS so he could swim primarily. They had not really even planned for him to go to college until it became obvious he could probably get a scholarship. They had planned to send him to culinary school. Luckily all athletes get TONS of tutoring to help them remain academically eligible, so I'm sure that's helping him make it through. So I'm sure he'll graduate with some sort of degree whereas before he wasn't even going.
