How do you get your burgers to stay together?

Before we have martial issues over these beeping burgers, how do you get your homemade patties stay together? Mine keep falling apart.

Are you putting some liquid in them? I've never had that problem. You can buy a burger press thingys that are just a plastic circle and you load the ground beef in and then use a press type thing to push the ground beef down to compress it. (so it's two plastic pieces....the circle and the press thing) I have one someone gave me, but I don't use it. I'm not even sure where it is. I'm sure they're cheap to buy. I don't use mine I just do them by hand (although I admit to RARELY making burger) and they're fine.

We usually don't have a problem the edges do kind of split a little bit. But if there is too little fat in the burger we have a hard time keeping it together so we add a fattier meat to it.

Never had a problem but that's probably because I smash them together perhaps too well.  I think they are supposed to be juicier if you don't pack the meat tightly.

I just press mine by hand, it seems to work okay for me.

I did see at Kroger on Monday they had a bunch of hamburger presses on clearance for a couple bucks, they were in the summer stuff.

I add an egg to my mixture before making the patties. I do the same with my meatloaf and stuffed peppers.

I never have problems with them falling apart, but what I hate when I make my own patties is how they end up so fat and don't fill up the bun.  I heard if you press a hole (not all the way through) in the center that won't happen as much, but it doesn't seem to help me.  I mostly use the premade frozen patties, but sometimes I like to mix something into the burgers, then I have to make my own.

I've learned to make them much thinner and bigger in diameter than I want them to be when finished, and putting a big dent/hole in the middle does help keep them from getting so thick in the middle.

Do you add something to them?
