An RAK Story

Dh is on a road trip and got a flat tire.  He was having trouble changing it because he was on the side of the highway.  So he called me to check to see if our Emergency Road Service under our insurance might cover someone coming out (we don't have AAA).  As I was researching and on the phone with him, two guys stopped.  Dh was a bit weary of what their intentions were but I kept reassuring him they were just going to offer their help.  And they did.  I could hear the relief in his voice.

I know sometimes to give or even receive an RAK in today's world can start off a bit skeptical, but I like to have faith that there are still many more good people out there with good intentions.  It warmed my heart that someone was there to help him.

Anyone have an RAK story to share?

I have a similar one, as I had a flat tire 2 weeks ago on a busy highway.  I was by myself with my 3 kids.  First thing I did was call MIL to please come and get my kids off the highway.  They would have been fine I'm sure in my car, but I was just too nervous to take a chance with the tractor trailer trucks barreling down the road at 70 miles and hour.  I had no one to call to help me, so I figured I'd just do it myself and get it over with, not having a CLUE what I was going to do.  I found the jack, and managed to figure out how to get the donut off the bottom of the car, and  got to work.  Took me a good half hour to get the flat off.  As I was trying to figure out how to get the donut on, a man pulled up and said 'YOu need some help!  Let me help you!  I was driving by and saw you had kids in your car and I got nervous to just leave you out here with them.'  A few minutes later MIL pulled up, and I hurried the kids into her car and she took off.   The man took about 5 minutes, got the donut on for me, packed up the rest of my stuff for me and sent me on my way!

When I got home and told my husband he was like 'Did you get the guys license plate? Did you see what kind of car he was driving?  Not everyone is nice, what if he other intentions??'  I just said 'NOT everyone is bad, there are some good people left in the world! Besides what was he going to do with me on the side of a busy highway?'LOL

I love these stories that reinforce that there are many, many more good people in the world than bad.  Glad you got some help.  It is frightening to be on the highway with a flat.  I was in the car with my Dad and three girls when his tire blew on the highway.  I was a nervous wreck as he tried to change it.  A state trooper pulled over and blocked his car so that people would go around.  That was a huge relief too.
