What is your child using to carry lunch this year?

If your child is taking lunch to school this year, what kind of lunch bag, lunch box, etc. is he using?

M is supposed to take a "snack" to Kindergarten.  I'm hoping for the later class which is 10:15-1:45, so it's over lunch, but she doesn't get much time to eat.  The lunch bags I've seen are so big for her! I'm not sure what to use.

Ds has lunch in K, so he has a LLBean lunch box (he used it last year in transitional K, too) and I just bought him a new funtainer water bottle and thermos with clone wars on it. I also have a wrap-n-mat and reusable snack bags for him to use, they worked great last year and he's used to bringing everything home.

My 8th grader has a soccer ball lunch box I got on clearance when h was in 4 th grade. He still uses it. Ds in 7 thgrade has a camouflage bag that h e has had for. Few years now. My little on likes to use a bag from a Subwy kids meal. Older ds never takes his lunch.

We're not sure yet. DD's favorite lunch box is really too big to stuff into her backpack. She has an alternate she could use but we're not committed to it yet. Last year, when she brought lunch to school, she settled on a plastic container with a lid. It was just big enough for a small drink, a few slices of luncheon meat (she doesn't eat sandwiches), a few crackers and a pouch of applesauce. She might throw in some raw carrots, too. That was enough "lunch" for her. I had her always keep a few jerky sticks in her backpack for "just in case".

Last year I found cute little lunch bags at Target that were animal shapes.  The weren't huge easy for dd to stuff into her tote bag for K.

I made some, the off the shelf size options are ridiculous for a younger kid.

Did you use anything to keep it cool? I would just use a container that she can open, but she likes cheese, ham, etc, so I think I need a little frozen water bottle or something in it.

We use Goodbyn lunch boxes. The girls have had them for the last two years. I have a small dog shaped freezer thing that I throw in to keep their lunch cool. The Goodbyn is probably a little too big for your little one this year though. It does fit in their backpacks, but not if they have any large books or extra shoes they are carrying.

The girls have a small square cooler bag from 31 that they use occasionally too. We have homemade reusable baggies and wrap-n-mats that we use with them.

Youngest uses a Funtainer/Thermos insulated straw cup and oldest uses a stainless steel water bottle. Both have two drink cups/bottles each, as they are allowed to keep one at their desk during the school day as well.

Got the backpack and lunch bag from Gymboree.  They are slightly bigger though .

For her lunch box, got this from container store just today.  I wanted something that she can open all by herself.

Do you think one of those soft freezer packs, like the boo boo buddies, would work to keep her food cool for an hour?
