If you are watching your weight...

And are eating 'diet'  recipes, do the rest of your family do as well?  Mine does.  Every time I do Weight Watchers dh loses weight too, not that he needs to.  I try to pick things we know and like anyway, and for the most part there is no complaining.  Also, say I'm not eating a particular food, although I might omit it from the recipe (I make a tomato salad with black olives but I have no control.  I'd eat the whole can if I could) so I just omit them from the salad when I'm watching.  Ds is free to go to the fridge and get black olives and add them to his salad if he wants, he loves them, but rarely will he do that (too much work I guess!)

If there is something I know for sure they will not eat/like (think: Tofu noodles) I will make them something separate and I'll have my 'diet' meal and that whole idea of cooking one thing will go out the window.  Or if they want something super yummy but I can't have it, I'll have a lean cuisine (which I rarely buy and have to hide) instead.

I have removed most bread and a lot of pasta from my diet and with a group of teenage boys plus my two young children, it is almost impossible to take those things away from them and still afford to feed everyone. In fact after the fair, DH wanted fair food, he and I are doing a thirty day special diet and I will have to not make things totally different at meals but more things that accompany our diet.

I'm like Mels. I try to make healthy meals for the whole family then hubby and DD will get either a larger serving size than I do or they get an extra "side" - usually something with gluten in it since I'm gluten-free.

I watch my carbs, I rarely eat gluten based carbs (my body is fine with gluten, they are just such high calorie carbs) and will have brown rice or quinoa with dinner. No more than once a week, I will have red potato and sweet potato. I will make pasta for the family and serve my sauce over quinoa. If I make burgers, I have mine without the bun and piled high with sauteed veggies.

If I make a meal that doesn't have an appealing side for the kids (particularly my ds, he's the pickier one), they can have a piece of homemade wheat bread and butter. I make a loaf every week and they love it.

I find breakfast and lunch to be more challenging for me. I get tired of egg scrambles, lettuce wraps and leftover soup and end up skipping meals, which kills my metabolism and energy. I need to find some new choices.

I don't really make DIET meals. I do make low fat, low sodium meals. I make the same meals for everyone but I always give my teen son a much larger portion. If I have lots of meat, I'll give him a double portion and the rest of us eat small servings of meat. Also everyone can always make themselves a snack later if necessary or have some fruit.

I am always trying to just make healthier tasty meals and just watch my portion sizes. Dh accidentally picked up regular pasta noodles the other day and he agreed how heavy and gross they seemed. He likes the whole grain pasta so much more, anyway little things like that....
