5 days with grandma and grandpa when they were 1, 4, 5 , 6, 10 and 17. We had a free trip from dh's company to a resort. This Oct, mil will come stay with them again when we have another free resort trip. Fil has passed away. The kids will be 9, 12, 13 & 14. The older two are on their own with their own kids.

I have to add that I have had my grand kids for extended periods since they were born. I have the 8 yr old and 9 month old this Friday through Sunday. I have to find a time for the 3 yr old to come as she begs to stay over every day when I talk o her on the phone.

Kids staying with grandparents, IMO, is completely different than staying with a paid caregiver. Definitely better than with a stranger (the 2 kids the mom called me about earlier) or even just a family friend. I am glad my weekend went well with the little two.

I'm lucy enough that I have never had to pay a caregiver or use anyone other than my mom or MIL for an extended period of time.  I think that in all 14 years since I had my first there has never been an occasion where I was gone for more than one night anyway.
