ABC Scavenger Hunt Activity

We did this fun alphabet activity to occupy some time this morning.  We started by putting our foam bath toy alphabet letters in order on the floor.  Then we went around the house and found an item that started with each letter of the alphabet and put it on the correct letter.

My 5 year old came up with most of the ideas, but even the 2 year old was able to figure out where an item went when we told him the first sound of the word.  They had so much fun!  They even had fun cleaning it up.

1000

Here they are with our completed alphabet.  We had:

Alligator, Bacon, Car, Dinosaur, Elephant, Frog, Goat, Horse, Iron, Jelly, Kanga, Lettuce, Monster, Nuts, Oreo, Pillow, Queen, Racecar, Sheep, Tiger, Umbrella, Vegetable, Water, Xylophone, Yellow, Umbrella and Zipper.

1000

Thanks to Play Dr. Mom for the idea!

What a great idea Susie! I love it!

Thanks for the tip. I may do this with my 4 year old tomorrow. He's my lazy boy when it comes to learning so I have to make things into fun and games!

That's what we're doing, since it's summer. Better than watching a phonics DVD, plus they got lots of exercise running up and down the stairs.
