How many houses did you look at before deciding to buy yours?

I loved this house the first time I drove by it with my aunt (we were checking out neighborhoods). We called the Realtor from the front of the house, and she came out and gave us a walk through and I loved it even more. She did show us another house in another neighborhood after we saw this one that was a bit bigger, but had a smaller yard, that would need to be cleared of trees, and fenced. It was in foreclosure, and it was a little less expensive than this one, it was okay, but there was just something about THIS house. So, essentially we bought the first house we saw smile.gif

This time, we looked about a million! At least a hundred. We had a heck of a time finding a house we liked that we could afford.

We wanted to move to a larger home in the same town, so we weren't pressured for time.  We only looked at homes that fit our specifications, so it really narrowed the field.  On the one hand we browsed (mainly online) for at least 2 years, but I'd say we actually looked at less than 10 in person.

Now we're in the same boat again.  We want to move to a home with more land, probably in the country.  We have been browsing online for years, but have not officially looked at anything yet.  I think when the right thing comes along we'll know it.

Our looking was kind of spread out. We did a little looking at one point - I recall specifically looking at one tudor in the area w/ DH. Then we suspended our search for a while. When we started up again, DH asked me to not take him to any houses unless I had already determined it was a contender. I received lots of listings from our agent - narrowed out the ones that didn't meet what I was looking for on paper - did drive bys of the ones that looked good on paper. The house we bought is the only one we looked inside of - the only one I brought DH to see.

This house was purchased sight unseen. My sister called me at work saying she found a house adn could I come look at it. I couldn't so I told her if she liked it then make an offer. She did. It was accepted then I saw the house finally. It works for us. If we were to win the lottery we would stay here but add on a master bedroom and a second bath, which is already in our 10 yr plan.

We looked for 6 months. I saw absolutely every listing available in three counties that was even close to our price range ($0 to $100,000 over what we wanted to pay.) I saw foreclosures. I saw for-sale-by-owners. I asked around and spread the word. Looking for a house was my full time job. We put three offers down (not counting the one house where we wrote two offers) and they were rejected. We worked with three different real estate agents. We considered buying land and living in an RV parked in a barn until we could afford to build. We found this house and it was P.E.R.F.E.C.T. As a matter of fact, when I envisioned the house and place I wanted to live, THIS HOUSE is what I imagined.

I'm like Happymom, I probably looked at at LEAST 100. We LOVED the house we were inbefore, but were moving because we WOULD NOT send our kids to the school system there (Indianapolis public schools). So I investigated school systems and then looked based on school test scores. We seriously looked at every suburb on every side of the city...north, south, east, & west. That's a TON!! We spent well over a year looking and deciding where to go. We finally decided on the suburb we wanted because it had the HIGHEST test scores, and THEN still looked at a TON there in that suburb.

I was very picky. We wanted a community with a pool, it had to have a room large enough to house my grand piano (not a baby grand, a full sized grand), it had to have brick on all 4 sides, etc. We finally ended up building.

we looked at 4 and were the 2nd offer on the 1st house we saw so we had to wait on the 1st offer to fall through.

We had a weekend to decide.  We probably looked at 10 houses and decided to build based on what we could afford.

over 100 in 5 months...had offers in on two others but they wanted more money then we were willing to spend.

came to the city we live in( suggested by a co-worker of DH)...looked at 3 here and bought this one.
