Laundry question: Removing red clay stains?

I'm starting to see the effects of dealing with the red clay around here (famous in the south). It isn't a huge problem but DD recently went swimming in what I'd call a "rural pool" and now has red clay stains on some of her swim gear (like her rash guard). Standard washing does NOTHING. Is there a secret to removing these stains or it is permanent?

maybe that will help.  It talks about letting it dry and brushing it off.

also using murphy oil soap??!!  I thought that was for floors.

And also using ammonia or borax.  (don't know about the ammonia with your asthma.... that could be bad. )

I got red clay stains out after a camping trip with plain old hydrogen peroxide.

Ammonia is a no-go.

I'm re-doing the load with hydrogen peroxide now.

I sprayed it directly on the stains and washed in cold.

Hydrogen peroxide is showing promise. Even the "sacrificial towels" I threw in the wash are looking lovelier. However, on the rash guard shirt, the clay came out on the side where I sprayed, not the other side (the inside of the shirt) so I'll have to spray it again - and wash it again. I'm waiting until tomorrow. The shorts are saved, though.

oh glad you had success with that!
