In your opinion ...

Are you more apt to work out on your own or by playing in rec leagues?

I am joining a tennis league and I am thinking about volleyball this winter ... though I haven't played volleyball in years. Do you think these sort of organized sports keeps you motivated?

For some people it does.  I know N needs organized sports or classes to keep her motivated.  I prefer to work out on my own.  I just got in the habit at a very young age and stuck to it.  I like the fact that I can start and finish on my time and not have to drive anywhere.

However, I think I would enjoy the friendship and time with others in a sport or class and have thought of joining one so I can meet other people.

I like to be part of organized teams, dance classes, or scheduled workouts with others, I find it extremely motivating and have had great experiences in the past, but with dh's work schedule I cannot be reliable with attending on a regular basis. Unfortunately, even at 7/8 pm, life gets in the way all the time.

I have learned to make it a priority during the day by myself when I have time. I am learning to put my health over the housework. I still try to meet friends for walks sometimes, but can't fit in an official class or practice until my life slows down a bit.

I prefer to work out on my own at home. I can do it anytime and wear whatever.

I'm more apt to work out by myself. I'm a horrible person and a people watcher and tend to [silently] poke fun at others when they're working out (some of their expressions, oh my gosh). I'm a lanky, uncoordinated Pollock. And karma is a b**** biggrin.gif

I like volleyball, I wish I could find a local team to join.

I'd say both for me, if I had the choice, and right now it's on my own.

I would do well with organized sport - am trying to find a partner to play tennis, but no one wants to.  Should try playing squash.
