Experienced Consigners, come on in!

Hey all,

So I found a consignment shop near my home and i'm estatic because it's not high end (many of the ones in the area only accept high-end brands...etc) and very affordable.

The other day I went with a big brown bag of clothes sizes ranging from 6mo-2t - all in good condition and some nice pieces (1 jacket, 1 coat, a couple of sweaters...etc - brands like The children's place, carters, old navy, gap and disney) and for 35 pieces of clothes she offered me $50 - is that good? I wish I knew what the going rate of each item typically is but I accepted it because I really wanted to get rid of the clothes

So for you experienced ladies, how do you measure the value of your gently used clothing?

Welcome to Mommysavers!

Her offer was not too out of the ballpark.  I have sold to consignment stores like Once Upon a Child (kids sizes) and Plato's Closet (juniors sizes).  Most tops and bottoms fetch $1-3 depending on the condition and brand name.  Things like special occasion clothing and outerwear often get more $, but $1 for a top or bottom is pretty good.

N will go and sell her clothes to a consignment shop.  She goes with a few bags and she usually comes home with $20 to $35.  They don't normally take everything--somethings are in good enough condition or they are off season.  She'll just go back and try again.
