Ha, I know about distractions when I have 6 here all that have homework...I put them in shifts and while they have their moments for the most part they know when I mean business and no playing around!

Kitchen table while I'm preparing dinner.  We often talk about getting him a desk and him doing it in his room, but he acts like we're banishing him so we'll save the $$ for when he really does want one in there.

When they were younger they ALWAYS did it at the kitchen table. That way I could see they were doing it, could answer any questions they had, pop over to give them spelling words, etc. When my DD got to HS she started lying on the living room floor to do it (we're always in the family room) which was fine with me. If she'd started getting bad grades I might have asked her to go back to the kitchen table, but they never did, so I let her do her own thing. But DS still did his at the kitchen table all the way through HS.
