Inexpensive Trick for (faux) Wallpaper

We have recently moved (again) and are in update/renovate mode.  Years ago, a decorator told me her trick for a "rich" looking wall treatment.  This is a great option for those who want something more than a simple painted wall, but don't want wallpaper....like me!  :)

Steps:

  1. Paint your entire wall the base color of your choice, using an eggshell finish.  Allow it to dry.
  2. Using painters tape (I use Scotch Blue Delicate), create stripes.  (After doing this a few times, I have a trick for making this easy, too, if you are interested.)
  3. Once you have your room taped off, paint alternating sections, using the exact same color, but in a hi-gloss finish.

I hope that made sense.  LOL  It is so easy and inexpensive.  I really love the finished look.

We had done this in a house, years ago, but with a thinner stripe.  This time, I measured 9 inch stripes, and am very happy with the result.

Just thought I would share!  :)

Sounds pretty!

That looks great!  It would be kind of cool with chevron stripes, too (although the taping process would take FOREVER).

I did something similar in the entry in my old house, except I stenciled a vine design in stripes. If you mess up, it isn't a big deal because small errors don't stand out.

Ooooo - That would be cool!  I am looking for ideas to paint my craft room.  That may just be it!  (It is a smaller space, so doable.)  :)

That is beautiful! Love the technique and color. I've always wondered how that was done. If only I could paint my walls :(  We lease to own so can't do it just yet, but I'm definitely filing this for later. This would make a good Pin in Pinterest!!

Great job addimom!!
