Schick Intuition @ Giant in Eastern PA (Stop N Shop)

This is still a good deal but it makes me perturbed at the same time...

The sale ad states $2.00 off (started on sun 08/12/12) there was a coupon in SS 08/12/12 for $2 off....so that's a total of $4 off the price.....however....

Saturday, before the sale, the refills were regularly priced at $8.98...on Sunday the regular price was changed to $9.98, so really I am only saving $3...which is still better than paying full price...but I'm annoyed as well...

Is it common that all stores jack up the price that they are putting on sale to make it LOOK like you are saving more money???

I find this at big Y all the time which is why I won't shop there.  When they run thier BoG2 free sale, the jack up the prices of everything else in the store, OR the jack up the price of the one you buy to get the 2 free ones.   $7 for a box of fish sticks??  Please.   Its a scam and I won't shop there.

Hmm, I try to do most of my general grocery shopping at aldi, but there are some things you can't get there, so before recently becoming a couponer, I went there as they were the closest store and have gotten good deals and major gas points there in the past. I guess I had an idea that some stores did that, but didn't take REAL notice til this incident because I was there both days and checked the prices specifically in readiness for the sale. I LOVE the schick intuition razors because for ME, they do the best job without too many nicks. I'm diabetic and prone to problems from any scrapes or cuts, so this was a huge deal for me, as it seems to rarely be on sale.

Are there any other stores you know of, that you have personally seen that use this tactic and is there a way to tell which items they will do this for??

Thanks!!

The best way to do this is to keep a price book of your favorite items and compare prices weekly.  Thats the only way you will know.

I do most of my shopping at Aldi, however I'm a Shoprite girl, I find thier sales to be the BEST, esp with coupons. And thier store brands are sometimes cheaper than Walmart prices.  I don't go as often as I should since I live 2 miles from Aldi, and 10 from Shoprite. LOL

Since you suggested making my own price book, I would assume there aren't any websites out there that have done something of a similar ilk??

Re: SHOPRITE

Not sure how many people are aware of this but Shoprite offers FREE diabetic medications (list here) as well as antibiotics (list here), childrens prescription vitamins, and prenatal vitamins.

Shoprite is about 30 mins away for me, so I have to make the most of every trip, so I only go once a month to get my free diabetic meds, and whatever deals happen to be going on while they fill the prescriptions.
